Richard Nelson Obituary
Mount Gilead - Richard D. Nelson Sr., age 73 of Mount Gilead, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the Marion General Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1948 in Salem, IL to the late Haldon D. and Beatrice M. (Plowman) Nelson.
Richard was a 1966 graduate of the Cardington Lincoln High School. He worked at Whirlpool for 40 plus years until retirement. Richard loved to golf and the OSU Buckeyes. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering in the garage, and following the grandkids in their sports.
On January 22, 1967 in Cardington, Richard married Betty (Levings) and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2012.
Left to cherish Richard's memory are his two sons: Richard (Shannon) Nelson Jr. of Marion and Robert (Brenda) Nelson of Mansfield; brother, Carl (Debbie) Nelson of Mt. Gilead; 3 grandchildren: Kerrington, Brookes and Xander Nelson; and special friend Marla Lyon of Mt. Gilead.
Friends may call Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Service, 440 Center Street, Cardington, OH. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Fulton Cemetery.
