Robert H. Pershing

MANSFIELD: Robert H. Pershing, 91, of Mansfield, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Oak Grove Manor following a lengthy illness.

Robert was born on November 6, 1921 in Toledo to George M. and Elsie M. Borchardt Pershing. He was the last surviving member of the Whitehouse High School Class of 1939. He proudly served his country as a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army during WW II. Robert was an active member of the Main St. United Methodist Church, where he was a long standing member of the Plus-Ultra Sunday School Class. He actively assisted the noon meals that the Church provides for the community. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 16 and the 40 et 8. Robert enjoyed reading, golfing, gardening, watching the Cleveland Indians, and spending time with his family, especially visiting his daughter and her family in CA.

He is survived by two daughters, Ellen (Rick) Gerich of Mansfield, and Jenifer (Mike) Lomeli of Chino Hills, CA; two grandchildren, Julia Lomeli of Norwalk, CA and Rebecca Lomeli of Chino Hills, CA; one sister-in-law, Virginia Pershing of Naples, FL; two brothers-in-law, Douglas Guernsey of Maumee, OH and Charles Jenkins of Durham, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Iris Pershing who passed away in 2004; and two brothers, Richard Pershing and Walter Pershing.

Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 230 S. Main Street, Mansfield. Memorial services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial with full military honors will take place in Mansfield Memorial Park.
