Timothy Lee Barney

Mansfield - Timothy Lee Barney, 59, of Mansfield Ohio passed away on December 23, 2017 at his home.

He was born Sept 20, 1958 in Dayton Ohio and was the son of James and Carol (Humerick) Barney. Tim graduated from Madison High School, served 6 years in the Army before receiving his Associates degree at the Culinary Institute of America and later his Bachelor's of Arts in Education at Kent State University. He spent much of his years as an executive chef in some of the most esteemed restaurants in New York City and Boston before returning home to Ohio where he and his then wife Mae Lae raised their two children. Tim continued his passion as executive chef in Cleveland, while also advancing his talents as a culinary arts teacher, restaurant owner/entrepreneur as well as a prison ministry disciple. Being an avid reader and lover of traveling, Tim travelled cross country to many sites before landing in Bremerton Seattle to write his novel, Puget Chase. After successfully completing many lifelong dreams, he decided to come back to Ohio to spend time with family in 2013.

Tim is survived by his mother Carol Barney; daughter Kristina (Brian) Lalley; son Caleb (Allison) Barney; with two expectant grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he is preceded by death by his sister Bonnie Mitchell and his brother David Barney.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 2-3 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Tim would love it if you would do a random act of kindness for an unexpected stranger. His generosity and love of life were two of his many great attributes and he would love nothing more than to brighten a person's day in his honor. As Tim would say 'Life is Good'.

Tim was such a giver. If there was something York Church needed, Tim would do his best to get it, including a beautiful grill. His prison ministry was outstanding. May he rest in peace.

Kristina,
I was so sad to hear of your father's death. I enjoyed my encounters with him at the Career Center and when we stopped on our Columbus trips and he gave us pie. It was my pleasure knowing you and your family during your high school career, and I hope we will meet again. I will never forget the lovely flowers you sent for Steve's funeral. Since the obituary said your Dad preferred that we do an act of kindness, rather than send flowers, I am searching for one. Love to you and your family. You are in my thoughts--Mrs. Crumley

Tim was kind and fun in high school. I have fond memories of hanging out with him during the several classes we had together and after school. I'm so sorry for your families loss.

Im terribly sad to learn of Tim's passing. I went to Madison High School with Tim. I remember him on the 1st day of 1st grade. We were in the same class and he cried so hard because he didnt want to stay without his parents. My mom remembered him and would ask about him through out our school yrs. I talked with him about this just after our 40 yr. class reunion (2016). He laughed. As I read about his life Im so glad he had such wonderful experiences. Im sorry for his families' loss. He was a good guy.
