Timothy Hollingsworth Obituary

Timothy Hugh Hollingsworth

Petaluma, CA - A writer, a poet, and an artist, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Timothy Hugh Hollingsworth passed away peacefully at his home in Petaluma, California on December 12, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

Tim was born on August 20, 1942 in Mansfield, Ohio. He attended Culver Military Academy in Indiana, and completed his undergraduate studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Tim joined the officer training in the Marine Corp while attending college, until he received an honorable medical discharge due to injury. Tim married Shirley, his high school sweetheart, in April 1964. In 1965, Tim and Shirley moved to northern California and purchased their first home in Bolinas, where they later welcomed their eldest son Jasper Cory.

In 1969, Tim took a teaching position at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester in Rochester, New York. They soon welcomed their second son Jesse Zane when they lived outside of Naples, New York. While living in upstate New York, Tim and Shirley bought a 65-acre farm in Yates County, raising 27 dairy goats, chickens, and four obnoxious horses. Tim and Shirley then took teaching positions in Florida, and moved their young family of four down to Fort Myers, Florida in 1981. Together Tim and Shirley worked as teachers and counselors in Florida for the next 27 years, until they retired in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2010, Tim and Shirley moved to Sonoma County, California to live close to their family.

Tim was generous, kind, funny, intelligent, and had many talents. Throughout his teaching career, he enjoyed writing poetry, short stories, and humorous articles. Tim published the book, Barking at Bears, to remember one of his dear friends. He was also interested in watercolor painting and produced many paintings of California and Florida landscapes.

Tim is survived by his loving wife Shirley, son and daughter-in-law Jasper and Christina, son and daughter-in-law Jesse and Kristen, his granddaughters Andie, Ryan, and Sydney, his beloved dachshund Honey, many close friends in California, Florida and New York, and his extended family in Ohio.

Dear Shirley,
Only yesterday,through CWRU's"THINK",did I belatedly find this-Tim's obituary.
This message is the only way I have of expressing my condolences to you and family for your loss
and the loss of my old friend,"Holly."
The few years we spent rooming together at college are indelible, serious and full of humor-
Holly was like the brother I never had- he taught me much about living and literature and the spoken word.
I have many good memories to share,if you desire, and this message arrives.

My best personal regards,
Jim Chatterton

Dear Shirley and Family,

We are so sad to hear that Tim passed away. We just did a search for you and Tim and found his obituary. We are so sorry for your loss.

We thought you were still living in Florida and thought perhaps we could find you and possibly reconnect since we are now living in Sarasota.

Our deepest sympathies to you and your sons Jesse and Jasper.

Love,

Jill and John Averill

To the Hollingsworth family, you have my sincere condolences. When someone falls asleep in death (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10) the memories we have of them become our most precious treasure. May those memories comfort you as well as Gods promise at John 6:40.

Tim was my older cousin, kind of like a big brother. One thing his children and grandchildren might not know is that he saved me from being more badly burned when we were much younger, by throwing himself on top of me repeatedly as I rolled around trying to put out a fire on my leg. The burns would have been much worse if not for Tim's efforts. Unfortunately, we lost touch over the years as we went on with our lives. My condolences to Shirley and their sons and grandchildren.

My Dad and I give our heartfelt sympathy to you Shirley and your family. What a long battle....finally at peace. Tim and you were and are the perfect neighbors and friends of my Dad and myself. Those morning coffee's that Tim so patiently listened my Dad's same stories over and over. Friendship is by far.....the truest of all gifts. God Bless you Shirley and God Bless Tim and your family.
