ANDREW PANSINI Obituary

Andrew L. Pansini Inventor and entrepreneur died peacefully at his home in Marin County on Friday November 4th. He was 93. Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Pansini relocated to San Francisco in 1942 to open and manage the Union Square Garage, the first underground parking garage in the world. By doing so, he expanded operations of Savoy Corporation, the southern California Company he headed most of his life and later guided into commercial real estate development and management. Mr. Pansini moved his family to Marin in 1951. Not content with spending his evenings cleaning the swimming pool, he invented the first automatic pool cleaner in 1957. He subsequently founded Jandy Industries, a nationally recognized manufacturer and marketer of innovation swimming pool products. By the early 1980's when Mr. Pansini's children were grown and his business enterprises well established, he rekindled his youthful passion for thoroughbred horses and found another challenge he embraced and enjoyed. Mr. Pansini owned and raced horses under the green and blue silks of Jandy. Mr. Pansini attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a business degree from University of Southern California. While at USC, Mr. Pansini was stricken with polio and conquered the disease through the same vision, strong will and generous spirit he shared throughout his life with family, friends, business associates and employees. Mr. Pansini is survived by his wife of 20 years, Constance; seven children by his first marriage to the late Jane Raue: David (Carolyn), Andrea Lewis (Richard), Andrew (Pamela), Carolyn Evans (Richard), Janice Okey (Charles), Jane Ronchelli (Denis), Laurie Parfitt (Eric), stepson Chris Moyer (Elizabeth). He is also survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth LaHaye and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to his devoted and passionate caregivers. Funeral mass for Andrew L. Pansini was held on Wednesday, November 9th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 761 Hilary Drive in Tiburon, followed by a reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.

My sincerest condolences to the Pansini children. The Duplisea family lived next door and I was a regular at your home playing with Andrea. I remember your parents in the kitchen and the warmth and love in the household, and your parents kindness to me. Also my dad had the best parking place at Union Square for years. I am very saddened to read of your father's death and my prayers and thoughts are for all of you.

To Andy's Children,
Don't know if you remember us, but we lived next door to you in Greenbrae for many years when we were all growing up. We were saddened to read of your father's death in the paper (also received an email from Millie Lutge (Greenbrae neighbor on the other side). Our condolences to you and your family. Mr P was a man of great character and a true Gentleman. I had the pleasure of working with him and the family for many years and have very fond memories of those days. In my early years working for Jandy Industries in San Rafael, I remember Mr P showing up at the office, coming into the warehouse and grabbing random parts, looking them over, and then disappearing out to the test pool to try something new. He was never content with status quo. Always striving to improve his ideas.

To the Pansini Family, please accept our sincerest condolences for your loss. He will be missed. We count ourselves as being very fortunate to have known him.

Pat and Kim Okey and family.

Dear Pansini Family and Jandy Employees,

As a life long "Pool Guy" here in the San Francisco Bay Area, I have fond memories of Mr. Pansini back in the old days and have such respect for all that he has done with his leadership and inspiration to help shape the culture of the swimming pool industry today. I remember the days of pools without automatic pool cleaners in the 50's and the bright future that Mr. Pansini helped usher in with the help of other Titans of our industry because of their vision and inventiveness. Had it not been for the "thinking outside of the box" creativity that Mr. Pansini and others had at the time, I'm hard pressed to think of what our industry might be like today. He has always been a true visionary leader and will remain as one of the great inspirational people that have helped develop and attract so many great people to the swimming pool industry.

Over 30 years ago my former partner in Nor Cal England, Bob Trusson and I, had the pleasure of meeting Mr Pansini, and subsequently marketing the Pansini Swimming Pool products throughout Europe, latterly working with Andy Jnr and Vance Gillette, two other great guys.
It is with much regret that we hear of the passing of Mr Pansini, and send our deepest condolences to all the family.

Dear dear Mr. P you taught us all so much about having a positive influence on the world. You lead us by example with your warm heart, bright smile, internal strength and infectious laugh. So few people have the ability to touch as many people as you have. We will always have you in our hearts. Best wishes and prayers to the extended Pansini family.
