Brandy Hitchcock Obituary

Brandy Marie Hitchcock Sep. 1, 1972 - Sep. 24, 2009 Brandy Marie Hitchcock passed away September 24th of heart failure, while undergoing chemotherapy treatment for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. She was 37. She was diagnosed with AML Leukemia and hospitalized 5 days after giving birth to her only child on June 27th. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Latta, her baby son, Holden Devere Latta, her parents, Bill and Judy Hitchcock, her sister, Nicole Hitchcock (James) and her nephew, Ramsey Hitchcock. Brandy fought the most courageous battle for her life, showing bravery, strength, and grace that simply cannot ever be matched. Her loss is immeasurable, and we will never fully recover from this tragedy. Brandy was the pure essence of beauty, laughter, and love. She truly was "one of a kind." Brandy attended Olive Elementary, San Jose Middle, and San Marin High School, graduating in 1990. She was always on the leading edge of fashion, beauty, and style, voted "most unusual" her senior year. She attended Long Beach State. After college she returned to the bay area and worked as a secretary, a personal trainer, and a flight attendant, which is how she saw a lot of the world. After traveling, Brandy worked as a waitress at "The Hilltop Cafe" in Novato, had a lot of fun, and made life long friends. Brandy found her true career path when her younger sister, Nicole opened her own Salon, "NH2", at the Vintage Oaks in Novato. She was about to receive her state cosmetology license when difficulties with her pregnancy forced her to take an early maternity leave. Working at NH2 was her passion - she loved the creativity and making friends with so many. She missed working at "NH2" every day she wasn't there. Brandy was always positive and easy going. If she was having anything less than a great day, you were the last person to ever find out. She loved people, had a great laugh, a beautiful smile that was always present, and a personality that could warm your spirits on the coldest of days. She was loving, patient, elegant, understanding, funny, sexy, friendly, intelligent, insightful, practical, gorgeous, graceful, loyal, accountable, grateful, and simply irreplaceable. Join us for a celebration of Brandy's life with her friends and family Sunday, October 4th, at "The Deer Park Villa" restaurant, in Fairfax, CA, 4:00 p.m.

Dear Hitchcock Family,

Getting to know Brandy not only as a patient, but as a person; has touched every person that works on 11 Long. She is one of those people whose energy touches your heart. It is rare to see the courage, strength, and constant positive attitude in a person enduring the fight she was fighting. I am fortunate to have cared for such an amazing woman. I am so sorry for your loss. She is going to be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers to all those who loved her.

A note to Holden, Brandy's first and only child: You were born to a beautiful, loving mother and adoring father. You were cradled and cared for by her for as long as she possibly could. Now that she is gone, you are still deeply loved and cared for by your father, two doting grandmothers, and an extended family who would do anything for you. Jeff, your dad, will always be there for you and you will hopefully grow up surrounded by the love and protection from both the Latta and Hitchcock families.

Brandy was my daughter-in-law, the daughter I never had but hoped to know all my life. She was everything I could have hoped for as a daughter - kind, loving, considerate and she loved my son and he loved her. She left us with a wonderful baby boy and we will, as a family, try to let him know what a loving and kind mother he had. Brandy, we will always love and miss you. You were a credit to your family and to ours.

To Brandy's Dear family:

As a fellow mom, I cannot imagine the loss of a child. This does not seem fair, but we have to trust that God has a plan. That's all I can think of to rationalize this tremendous loss. Please know that the friends from the San Rafael Mom's Club are here to help your family and your precious new baby in Brandy's absence. As sisters in motherhood, it would be an honor and a privelege to help Brandy in any way we can. You are in our prayers.

As a friend of Brandy's mom, Judy, mine is a missed opportunity having never met Brandy, knowing what a beautiful soul and shining example of pure love she was. As she carries these attributes into the afterlife, Brandy continues to touch the lives of all who knew her, of that I am certain.

Blessings to the Hitchcock family and may Brandy rest in peace. Sincerely, Lake

Caring for Brandy on 11 Long was a distinct privilege for our nursing staff. While she exhibited herculean strength & resolve on a daily basis, she also broke our hearts with the love she shared for her family, and especially for Holden. She was one of us, but more courageous than we could ever dream of being. It's an honor to have known her.
