Bill: I was so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I first knew of him from my father who shared a commute to San Francisco when I was a child, I believe. Many years later, I graduated from UC Davis and heard of a full time job with a relatively new winery in Kenwood. My dad took me to see Dan one evening to ask his opinion of the winery. He said that I should take the job - Chateau St. Jean had a future in his opinion. Now it's 26 years later, and I'm still following his advice!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

Bill, I never met your dad, but over the years I have heard so many things about him that in my mind he was this great force that had left such an impact on the business. The most marvelous accomplishment that jumps out at me from his life story is 61 of marriage--that takes true love AND your own hard work, I'm sure. How great that they had the 60th Anniversary last year. All my best to you...and a nod to your father. How many of us will live life so loud, so full!

Through
your work at the Wine Advisory Board (to mention just one part of your career),
wine became, and through your cookbooks is still becoming, widely accessible
to Americans. What a splendid legacy! With sympathy to the family. Sincerely,

Bill: I was truly sorry to read of your father's passing. I well remember some very lively discussions about the wine business when he came to visit John Parducci and me, well over a quarter century ago. His many contributions to the wine industry in California cannot be listed in such a short space. My sincere condolences to you and your family...Art Nathan

Our greatest sympathy is extended to the entire Turrentine family. Bill, your father created a great service to the entire grower community that lives strong today, and will, well into the future.

As The Wine Advisory Board closed in 1973 and Dan moved on to start his new career as a wine broker, I bought the publication rights to the cookbooks that Dan had founded. We have kept them all in print and they still bear his name and greetings. i.e. FAVORITE RECIPES OF CALIFORNIA WINEMAKERS. Dan was very proud of his wine cookbooks but was always modest about his publishing achievements, giving full credit to all the editors, writers and authors who worked on them. Many wine and food writers of today, do not know, or have forgotten, that Dan's Wine Advisory Cookbooks were the start of wine and food matching concepts in America. Thanks Dan, you will be missed but your wine cookbooks will live on forever!

When I arrived in California from Ohio in 1959 fresh out of college, one of the first things I did was enroll in a home course offered by The Wine Institute. The nice diploma given upon completion, which hangs on the wall of my den, was "signed" by Mr. Turrentine. A little connection, but it started my knowledge and continued enjoyment of wine. It is nice to read of his long, full and obviously enjoyable life.
