Donald Wilcox Obituary

Donald F. Wilcox Nov. 5, 1930 - Feb. 20, 2014 Donald F. Wilcox was born November 5, 1930, in Greenfield, Mass. He was a graduate of Deerfield Academy, Yale University, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Stanford University School of Medicine. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his daughters Lynn Douglas and Lisa Wilcox Corning, and his granddaughters, Lucy and Jasper. Don married Sharon Lynn King on August 8, 1959. She followed him to Germany where he served as an army doctor in the Howitzer Battalion 75th Artillery. After returning to California with his family, Don served his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Stanford Hospital and then joined the San Rafael Medical Group and Marin General Hospital. There, he had the privilege of delivering hundreds of babies, including those from multiple generations of the same family. Don was recognized by several honor societies for his excellence in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. He was the past chief of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Marin General Hospital, past president of the San Francisco Gynecology Society, past president of the UCSF Clinical Faculty Association (where he also taught medical students), and a member of the Pacific Coast Obstetrics and Gynecology Society. Don exemplified the truest sense of the word "gentleman". He was generous, affable, and ready with a smile. He had a wicked sense of humor, had a supportive ear if needed and was always willing to offer sage advice or guidance. His quiet reserve was consistently reassuring. Don will be most fondly remembered for his commitment to his wife and children. At his request, there will be no service. Contributions to his memory may be made to Marin General Hospital or a charity of your choice.

I want to say thank you so very much for my beautiful boy. He is a great blessing in my life. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Wilcox. I just found out about his passing.. My son is now 28 years old. I was just going through some of my son's infant things and came across the little porcelain shoe given to me as a keepsake. I love it. That One day I will give it to my son. God love you and keep you.

Dr. Wilcox delivered my first three children. Friends of mine who had already given birth told me about a phenomenon that typically occurs immediately following the birth wherein the woman falls head over heels for the obstetrician who delivered her first baby. After the birth of my first child, a daughter, I found myself starring at all the pictures my husband took during my labor and delivery. Now I truly adored my husband, but Dr. Wilcox suddenly had me smitten! It was pure "Hero Worship" for me and lasted about 3 to 4 weeks. What an incredible Doctor. I'll never forget the man.

I'm sorry to hear about Dr. Wilcox. He was my gynecologist for many years and got me through a very "difficult period" in my life. I think he would appreciate that pun! He always seemed extremely knowledgeable as well as having a good sense of humor about my visits. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort in many loving memories.

Fond memories of Dr. Wilcox delivering Megan with my Dad, Dr. Celli the day after Don's hernia surgery! Maybe they are operating together again! Caring thoughts and prayers to the Wilcox family from the Celli family.
