When I think of Ed: a great teacher, in the classroom and on the court; a sense of humor; patience; one of the first to welcome me to Tam; an institution at Tam HS; simply unforgettable.

Dear Eileen and family: I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Eddie. So many, many years ago, we used to enjoy watching the Redwood High basketball games and going after to Ricardo's for dinner. Those were good times!! Louise joins me in sending our love and prayers to you at this difficult time. God Bless, Ralph Cicurel

coach was always the bright light. he glowed
with passion and love for life. on the court,
in the halls and offices of tam, in the locker room at half time, chasing eddie joe around the bleachers in the gym, sternly explaining the play one more time, dancing with eileen, he glowed, and we all knew we were in great hands.
thanks coach,

Mr. Chavez, you were and always will be part of my memories of my days at Santa Clara University.
After I became friends with EJ is when I met Ed. He made me feel welcomed at his home. He accepted me with my eccentricities with a smile and a slight laugh while shaking his head.
He will truly be missed, but always alive with the fond memories I have of him and the many adventures over the years with his family.

Eileen, Eddie Joe, Greg, Bucky, Patrick, Terry and Chris, Thank you for being an important part of my life. You always made me feel a part of your extended family both at your home and when we all helped keep Saturday mornings interesting for so many in your dad's program for kids at Tam High. Your dad was my mentor, my friend, and my role model for what family and love could be. He was a treasure, as are each of you.

Ed Chavez truly transcended. He was a brilliant coach, a loving husband and father, a good neighbor, a talented teacher. But ... he was more than that. He showed us how to value others, create community and embrace the joy of life. He was a special person and will truly be missed.

Dear Chavez Family, I am sorry for your loss. Ed was a great human being and we knew him as a gifted coach. He taught tennis to two of my son's, Matt and Tom, and in the process he imparted his life wisdom. The combination was unbeatable. Thanks Ed.
With deepest sympathy.

I was sad to read that Ed has died. My thoughts are with the Chavez family . Ed played a major role in my early life. He coached me in ‘67 at St Anselm's and I worked for him in ‘68 and ‘69 at Tam High School as a lifeguard and swim teacher. One of the best coaches I ever had because Ed was truly a thinker and he always had great strategy along with motivating his players. As a boss , Ed was always in a good mood. The world is a better place because of him.

My deepest condolences to all the Chavez family members. Mr. Chavez was the first teacher I ran across in my freshman year @ Tam High. I was lost & so frightful being my first year in high school, & he saw that & guided me with his beautiful green eyes. I will never forget him. He was one in a million! Who would have known that when I moved the following year to San Anselmo & went to Drake that I would cross the path of his friendly son Eddie Joe who treated me with nothing but kindness as a new student.
You will always have an imprint in my heart Mr. Chavez. Rest in peace my friend....

Mr Chavez was among those teachers at Tam who lives on in all our memories as a man who was funny but tough and stood out as we were trying to figure out who we were. We all liked him. He was in that group of whispered names like Mr. Marshall, and Mr. Gustafson, Mr Bell and actually several others. He did make a difference.

I am among the many grads of Tam who learned how to type from Ed Chavez. He was funny clowning around with Conrad Hoetger in class. BUT he encouraged you and made such an impact. I know Ed would be proud of me as I type quite efficiently with fast speed. Such a wonderful human being and a great loss to all his students and family.

Mr. Chavez was a truly life changing teacher. I had him for History and Civics. The things he taught us still help inform my ideas and way of working in the world. He treated each student as an individual. Cheers to you Mr. Chavez.

To the Chavez clan,
Please accept my condolences on your loss of a truly great man. One of my fondest memories was how our two families filled several pews in church. I also was very fortunate to have your dad as my CYO basketball coach at St. Anselm's. He touched the lives of many kids throughout the years. He will be missed....
