Gary Morey Obituary

Gary Scott Morey Nov. 8, 1929 Nov. 24, 2018 Gary was born at the Cottage Hospital in San Rafael to Wilder and Dorothy Morey. He graduated from San Rafael High School in 1947 where he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Miller, in art class. Gary was a talented cartoonist and was offered a job with Walt Disney fresh out of high school. But since that would mean leaving Marin County, Jackie, and the large Morey/ Gillette/ Bordenave family, Gary opted to stay. He married Jacqueline in 1950 and was drafted into the Army in 1951 while Jackie was pregnant with their first son. He served two years in Japan during the Korean War before returning home to his family. Gary was always an entrepreneur. He owned three Junior Boot stores, ensuring that the children of Marin families were well-shod. He later owned the Skylight Frame Shop in San Rafael which became a meeting place for many of the 4th Street business owners. He eventually purchased the Redi-Mat manufacturing business in Novato and for over 20 years supplied mats to frame shops and art supply stores all over the country. Gary was always an avid cartoonist and continued to delight his family and friends with caricatures for years. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his sons Robert (Madeline) and David (Judy); his grand-children Sean (Sarah), Julia, and Christine; his four great-grandchildren; his sister Nancy Krelle (William); and his five nieces and nephews. We will celebrate his memory with a private ceremony.

I'm writing to express my condolences for the loss of Gary Morey. I know through business only one of Gary's sons, Bob and Bob's wife Madelaine. Gary Morey must have been a wonderful man to have such kind, caring people in his family. From reading Mr. Morey's obituary, it seems the family has such great love and esteem for him. It's my hope that the years since he died have softened the pain of his loss and left the warmth of many good memories.

Sincerely,
Courtney C. Fischer

I wish I had the opportunity to get to know Gary even better. Seems I inherited some talent from him. He was a neat man what I knew. I will remember his smile and kind heart forever.

Gary was an inspirational, great example when I was growing up. He always had the time to listen. He provided thoughtful advise. He was a leader, a great father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend. I consider it a privilege to have known him. He lived life fully.

To my oldest and dearest of friends Dave; My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May your memories comfort you in this difficult time.

With warmest regards,
Dan Blanquie
