James Kevan Fugate On Sunday, October 3, 2021, we lost a beautiful person, James Kevan Fugate (Kevan), in Marin, aged 66. Charismatic, exuberant, snazzy, though also a modest and private man. A loving and loved son, brother, and uncle. Such a dear friend and Good Fairy to many. Born December 11, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas, Kevan graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration but pursued a career in caregiving. He specialized in end of life care - a passion and skill set honed after caring for his beloved parents, Sue and Richard, for many years before they died. His greatest honor was to be mentioned with affection in a client's obituary. It happened often. His greatest gift was juicing every drop of drama, shock and humor from a story, delivered with impeccable timing in his Southern drawl. His superpower? Squeezing the joy out of life for his patients, himself and their families with outings, adventures, culinary wizardry and giggles. If a client loved cats, he'd sneeze his way through his allergies. When a dementia patient had a good day, he'd alter plans, work late, seize the moment. When a client took his own life one Thanksgiving, Kevan pushed through grief and shock the same day to remind others via Nextdoor, to check in on neighbors and family who may be suffering in silence during the holidays.
