James Murphy Obituary

James S. Murphy James S. Murphy, 94, passed away on Dec. 21, 2018 with family members at his bedside. Born in Sterling, IL, Jim entered the Army Air Corps in 1943, commissioned 2nd LT in 1944, and graduated from flight school in 1945. He transitioned into the newly formed US Air Force in 1947. During his career, he flew missions during the Korean War, Search and Rescue Missions in the Pacific, and earned the rating of Command Pilot. In 1964, Jim retired as a Major, settled in Novato, CA, and started a 27-year career with the State of California. He is survived by Peggy, his wife of 73 years; his eight children; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters. A partial Rosary at 10:45 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. is scheduled at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato on January 19, 2019. Interment will be on January 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. Donations in Jim's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation (ALZ.org) or Hospice by the Bay, in lieu of flowers.

Aunt Peggy and cousins, I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Jim's passing and always enjoyed seeing him when he was in Sterling. I wish I was able to have seen you all more often. You are in my thoughts and my prayers. Your niece, Patty.

Dad,
