Not sure what to say?

I remember you from Cross Country camp. I remember seeing you break away down the final stretch of the IHSAA 3200M state championship, beating a guy that had set the state record in the 1600M earlier that evening. I remember learning that you repeated "no one remembers second place" to yourself as you kicked down the stretch and thought you could walk on water. I remember you on my recruiting trip to Wabash and I remember my first day at practice, when you gave me a high five and I suddenly felt a whole lot less lame.

Mostly, I remember when my mom called me to say someone I'd run with had perished in Afghanistan. In a million years, I never could have guessed she would have then said your name. You were invincible and once you weren't, the world underneath me shifted.

February 8, 2016

I was with Jeremy on that fateful day; I think of him in some fashion every day. You were the very best of us all and I appreciate all that you did in the short time we had you.

I've been thinking about Jeremy a lot today and spent the last hour reading online stories about him. All I can say is that I feel lucky to have known and lived with Jeremy for a little while, and I will continue to do my best to remember him by sharing memories of him. My thoughts are with Jeremy's family on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. To me Jeremy Wright is a symbol of everything that is good about the human spirit. Love to all...

On the 10 year anniversary of 9/11, my thoughts go out to Jeremy's family and all that he gave. Jeremy was in my pledge class as a FIJI at Wabash. My wife and I were in DC during the attack a few hundred yards from the Pentagon. Despite as moved as we were that day, I can't imagine actually doing what Jeremy did in using all of his intellectual and physical talents to selflessly serve out country in such real way, let alone pay the ultimate price. His sacrifice and service continues to weigh heavily on my mind and leaves me with the greatest and humblest respect.

I was never fortunate enought to get the chance to meet Jeremy for myself. However, I too graduated from Southwestern Jr./Sr. High, and in such a small community you can't help but to feel connected to those with whom you share your roots. I threw discus and shot put in junior high and some of high school and I always use to read the records boards. I truly respected Jeremy for the athlete he was. It was nearly impossible to hang out with the track/cross country crowd without hearing the stories of Jeremy leaving everyone in the dust. I can still remember hearing of the day when Jeremy was killed... It was my senior year. The school promptly renamed the track and field to Wright Field.

You will forever be remembered in the halls of Southwestern as my senior class donated the funds to immortalize you as well as all other SWHS graduates who have been killed in service with a plaque, which we presented during our graduation ceremony. It takes a special sort of person to dedicate their life to the service of their fellow countrymen. The words do not exist to express my graditude. There is nothing I can do or say that will make much of an impact on the sorrow of your loved ones, and there is most certainly nothing I can do to change your untimely death. However, I can promise you this, so long as I live you will not be forgotten, the sacrifices you have made will not be taken lightly, and you will forever live on in the freedoms of your fellow Americans. If it were not for you, Jeremy, and so many others like you, America would most certainly cease to exist.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jeremy, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I never got to meet Jeremy, even though we were stationed on the same FOB in Afghanistan. Seeing the tribute his fellow soldiers arranged for him brought tears to my eyes. Jeremy was the only soldier from our FOB who lost his life in combat the entire year I was stationed in Asadabad. Shortly after this incident we caught the man responsible for this attack; it was the single greatest thing I did while stationed in Afghanistan; however I would’ve preferred to have completely avoided the entire situation. It’s now been several years since that day, and I still occasionally think back to what happened. I want to thank the Wright family for their sacrifice, and wish all of Jeremy’s brothers in 1st Group a safe journey, because the battle continues on.

You're still in my thoughts every day brother.

August 2, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
