John Gregaru Obituary

John Thomas Gregaru Feb. 23,1957~ Feb. 22, 2009 "Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality." ~ Emily Dickinson Sadly, John Gregaru passed suddenly in his home on February 22, 2009. Born in San Francisco and raised in Marinwood, John is a graduate of the Terra Linda High School class of 1975. He has been a resident of Rohnert Park for over 20 years. John is the devoted and loving son of Greg and Elaine Gregaru of Marinwood, the beloved nephew of Anna Gregaru-Chicka of Cotati, the loyal and caring brother of Frank (and Donna) Gregaru of San Rafael, and the crazy, fun-loving, devoted uncle to his beloved nieces, Sophie and Audri Gregaru. He was also the devout husband of Kay Spencer-Gregaru, who predeceased him in November of 2008, and a loyal and trusted friend to all. John's special gift for friendship, unending generosity, compassion for animals, radiant smile, sense of humor, sheer love of his Harley, and heart of gold will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him. The many lives he touched will be forever grateful. A celebration of John's life will be held at St. Isabella Church, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. A reception will immediately follow. In the spirit of John's compassion for animals and devotion to his nieces, donations in his memory may be made to the following charities in lieu of flowers: The Humane Society of Sonoma County, P.O. Box 1296, Santa Rosa, CA 95402 and The Michael Basso Memorial Foundation (a foundation in which his nieces are actively involved which generously and lovingly helps the homeless and needy) P.O. Box 6112, San Rafael, CA 94903-0112. John, may you "ride free" forever!

One of the more real people I've ever known. A naturally upbeat positive soul. Many fond, even exciting memories. See you on the other side, JT~

I just learned of John's passing this weekend. My heart is sadden by this news. My sister Karin, John and I shared a house in Santa Venitia in the mid 80's for a short time. John was always happy and had a smile to share. And every morning I would hear him throw the dog food spoon into the sink when he got ready to leave for work, lol. Funny that Chester is mentioned in this guestbook, he did love that dog. I will always have good memories about John. My deepest sympathies goes to his family of their loss.

As the rest of you, I could go on forever about Johnny as well. He was a staple here in "the hood". If I could share what I said at his services I would but I don't think there is enough room. Johnny was the glue that held our neighborhood together. He made us a family. He looked after all of us exactly the way we needed. We wish he would have let us be there for him the way he was for us. We lost Johnny too soon and the hood will never be the same.

I lived up the street from the Gregarus while growing up, and was in John's class from Silveira Elementary through TLHS. My parents, sister, and I extend our sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Gregaru, and Frank and his family for your loss. John will be missed.

Your passing makes me sad. We have been "family" for many years. Your Mom & Dad and mine have shared so much and as kids you were always my "cousin". The memories of you are forever, I speak of them often and always will. "Ride" forever and you will always ride by my side as my Harley Angel. Your friend forever, Jerry R.

John helped us when we added the 2nd story on to our house. We would laugh so hard that we would never get the sheet rock hung and my husband had to seperate us to get any work done. That was in 1975 and the last time I saw John we still laughed over the sheet rock. Heaven only knows what we laughed about but it was funny then and again in 2008. I have so many stories that I could add to this but space is limited. After being a neighbor for over 30 years and a friend for much longer I love the this great family and my heart breaks with the lost of John. I know that John is at peace now and us who are left will miss him dearly. All My Love and friend ship, Gloria

I am heartbroken by the news of John's passing. He was a kind and compassionate person and reintroduced us to the love of dogs. We had two of Maggie and Chester's pups, Louie and Lucy. They are both long gone now, but got me through my own difficult time of loss. I will always remember John.

My family lived next door to John and his family when John was 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 years old. He was a wonderful and kind boy who loved baseball. I remember watching him play Little League with Greg and Elaine always there supporting him (and Frankie). He had an ideal boyhood...in such a close family.
My heart aches for his family who have lost so much. I hope that the following Jewish prayer will help them.
WE REMEMBER HIM
At the rising sun and at its going down we remember him.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter we remember him.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring we remember him.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer we remember him.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn we remember him.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends we remember him.
As long as we live, he too will live, for he is now a part of us, as we remember him.
When we are weary and in need of strength we remember him.
When we are lost and sick at heart we remember him.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make we remember him.
When we have joy we crave to share we remember him.
When we have achievements that are based on his we remember him.
For as long as we live, he too will live,
for he is now a part of us, as we remember him.
