John Legnitto Obituary

John Albert Legnitto Born December 10, 1956, to Frank and Barbara Legnitto passed away peacefully on April 26th 2014 with his family by his side. Those who knew him know John will be partying with the angels now. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Irene Legnitto, who took amazing care of him during his life and battle with cancer. Irene and John have three children; David, Barbara, and John. John has been a significant member of the San Francisco community for many years and was the Vice-President Group Manager of Recology San Francisco Region. As John has touched so many lives throughout the years, the Legnitto family would like to invite all to celebrate his wonderful life at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert St. San Francisco on Thursday, May 1st at 7pm for a Rosary Vigil and Friday, May 2nd at 10:30am for his funeral Mass. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please send donations to UCSF for pancreatic cancer research or another special cause of your choice. I had the pleasure of helping out Mr. Legnitto during his treatment at UCSF. He was a very genuine person that I looked forward to seeing. When he asked you how your day was going, he meant it. A true gentleman and all around great guy with character. We lost a good one. Riposa in pace.

I went to both grammar school and high school with John. My best memories are of him at St. Rita's in Fairfax. We were a great class and John added a wonderful flair to any antics. I do believe that by the time we left in 1971, John had busted the auto hinges on every classroom we had been in! He was strong, yes, but he was kind. He had lots of Italian phrases which were probably swear words. May paradise hold you with joy and peace. Blessings to Irene and your family.

John Legnitto was a good man, anytime I needed him for something he was always there. I will miss his great stories and jokes. It's very sad to lose someone so great, who is still so young. He fought his illness till the very end and I feel honored to be there with him through his final days. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, his wife Irene and children Johh, David, and Barbara and all his friends and relatives. May his soul rest in peace.

A big guy but never a bully. I remember John running down the court in one of our 6th grade CYO games---he headed in the wrong direction and was so excited to make a layup he could not hear everyone yelling, "Wrong Way John!" He made the basket and then just smiled. We all smiled. That was the only time I ever saw him going in the wrong direction---he was a good man and always seemed years ahead of us. My condolences to Irene and the children. Rest in peace friend.

I first met John at Sunset Scavenger. He was the auditor from Forbes, I was the accountant. Years later, he returned to Sunset as a manager. I was so pleased to see him that, when we met in the hallway on his first day back, I gave him a hug and told him, "welcome back, John." I am sure Jesus said the same words when John appeared before Him. Goodbye, John. Rest in peace.

I worked at Marina Union 76 from 1966 until 1971 and John would work there on Saturdays. He was funny! I remember he loved pesto and the song "In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry. I still think of John when I hear it. A few years ago, John and I exchanged emails...Rest in Peace, John, and my condolences to his family.
