John Marshall Obituary

John H. Marshall Passed away peacefully on February 27, 2013, at the age of 93. "Jack" was born July 7, 1919 at the Cottage Hospital in San Rafael, to his parents Henry and Louise Marshall and lived most of his life at his family home on Shady Lane in Ross, and later in San Rafael. He is survived by his children John R. Marshall and his wife Laurie, Louise Marshall Grant and her husband Bill Grant, and Karol and William "Buzz" Duff Marshall Cummins as well as his grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Brown Marshall and Scott K. Grant. Jack graduated from Tamalpais High School where he learned architectural drafting and ran track. After High School, he drafted templates for ships in Sausalito. Later he joined the Air Force during WWII. After the war, he attended College of Marin and UC Berkeley and mastered architectural design. He designed innumerable homes and restaurants throughout San Francisco and Marin and beyond until he was well into his eighties. Jack had fond memories of playing with his cousins and friends beneath redwood and elm trees in Ross, and long car trips to central California visiting his many cousins. He enjoyed his morning coffee outings and staying active walking up and down the stairs in Sausalito. Jack's interest in boats, trains, planes, and automobiles never waned. He was a member of the Golden Gate Region Antique Automobile Club of America and a lifelong member of the Toy Train Association. On Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11:00AM, a Memorial service will be held at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E St., San Rafael, CA 94901.
