As we look forward to our 50th anniversary next month, we can't help but remember the role John played in our lives. First, he took a chance on a unknown and choose Wayne to lead his kitchen at Pieces of Eight. It was there that we meet and were later married. At our Haiku Gardens wedding , John surprised us by greeting our guest with a Solomon size bottle of champagne which he had special ordered to share with us and our guest on that happy day. Thank you John....your spirit and kindness has long been remembered. Wayne and Cheryl Matsumoto

John was so fun to work with on all the Truckee projects. I was so fortunate to be his contractor and friend in the 80’s when we collaborated on renovation and preservation of the former Truckee Mercantile and built The Truckee River Llama Ranch store which was re-imagining retail with John’s very creative touch. He was a mentor to me and I feel privileged to have been part of John’s vision for Truckee which is being realized now.

Rhonda, Jonathan, and Andrea,
In his own quiet way,John did more to restore and preserve historic downtown Truckee, than any historical society, or government entity could ever do. He was an inspiration to me, a successful businessman, as well as one crazy, unorthodox fun guy to be around! Thanks for the memories.
