Jonathan Bornstein Obituary

Jonathan Andrew "Bucky" Bornstein Passed away suddenly on Tuesday February 2, 2016. Jonathan was known for his quick wit, easy smile, and unsurpassed knowledge on a variety of issues. He loved to discuss politics, world history, religion, European soccer and books. Jonathan was known to friends and family as Bucky from early childhood. He is survived by his former wife Vicki, two remarkable children, Nicholas, 18 and Helena 15, his father, Isidoor, brother Dan, and sister Justine who has been living most of the past 25 years overseas. He was predeceased by his mother Mary Bornstein in 1988. A lifelong Marin resident, Jonathan was born in San Francisco April 4, 1969. His family moved to Marin in 1971 when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Drake High School in 1987, and received a BA in Modern Political Theory from Stevenson College at UC Santa Cruz in 1992. He went on to work as an administrative aide for State Senator Milton Marks while he attended and graduated from San Francisco Law School. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1998, and thereafter worked for the California Attorney General, the defense firm Felice, Brown, Eassa & MacLoud, the Law Office of Edwin Train Caldwell, the Caldwell Law Firm and eventually The Chanler Group. He was an accomplished attorney known for representing his clients with an aggressive zeal and negotiating hard on their behalves. Jonathan possessed a brilliant recall of the law, was quick with analysis and was a gifted legal writer. He had a keen eye and was particularly good at evaluating legal issues and case values. Jonathan used those skills over the years both in service to his clients and to the Court as a settlement panelist for the San Francisco Superior Court. Jonathan was also very active in his community, helping out whenever asked to do so. He volunteered for Marin legal aid and taught the law to others by helping various schools with moot court and legal writing classes. Jonathan loved most sports, was a terrific tennis player, and a friend to many. A charming man, there was just something very loveable about Jonathan. He was generous to a fault, had a general concern for others and was truly loved by many. To say that he will be missed is certainly an understatement, Jonathan passed far before his time. Services for Jonathan will be March 19th at the Fairfax woman's center at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been set up: gofundme.com/djnrxqtg.
