Julie Oyle Obituary

Julie Anne Oyle Passed after a long battle with cancer on December 31, 2016. She will be missed and remembered in the hearts of her loving husband Ben Oyle, daughter and son-in-law Julie Anne and Ryan Gardin, daughter, Emma, son, Joey, sisters and brother-in-laws Jan and Burt Hoffmann and family, Janine and Ken Helman and family. She was the middle daughter of Sharon and Richard Garriott. When she was seven, her family made the first of several cross country moves. She worked in Administration at Wildwood High School in New Jersey for many years before coming back to the Bay Area. Julie met Ben in 1987 and they were married in 1994. In August 1990, Julie started working at the College of Marin. She was one of a kind and was always there for anyone who needed an ear or advice. She started her career at the College of Marin working in the Admissions and Records Office. She then transferred to the Workforce Development. Along with others, Julie worked very hard to get the Indian Valley Organic Farm started. She loved the garden and would visit it often. Julie was kind and gentle but still a force to be reckoned with in defending the rights of the students she proudly served at Marin Community College Indian Valley Campus, and on behalf of her fellow classified workers. She always made time to help others and her attention to detail really made a difference in the many, many lives that she touched. Over the past 13 years, Julie served in many different roles in the CSEA, California School Employees Association including Chapter Vice President and Chief Job Steward. She participated in nearly every training opportunity that CSEA had to offer and always made the experience better for the others in attendance. She won the esteemed honor of CSEA Regional Activist of the Year award in 2005. Julie put in countless hours participating in several state and local political campaigns. She was very involved in her community and a graduate of Novato Leadership. She urged others to go through this program too Her first love was her family. She was Mom to Julie Anne, Emma and Joey and second Mom to many others. And, if you ever happened to walk through her front door, you were considered "part of the family." She welcomed many and loved doing things for her friends and family. In addition, she had a love for quilting beautiful blankets and was quite crafty. Friends always looked forward to her gallons of apricot jam she made every year and if you were lucky to be in her kitchen during the holidays you may have sampled some of her amazing fudge. Julie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be a Celebration of Life at Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin, 1801 Novato Blvd, Novato, CA 94947 on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00am. This is an opportunity to share wonderful stories of Julie, celebrate her life so please come in celebration attire. I am so sad to learn of Julie's passing after the date of the service. Julie was always helpful to me, never exasperated when I asked her the same thing another time. My heart is heavy and I wish all the best to her beloved family as you grapple with your loss.

Juilie will be deeply missed- her mastery of the byzantine details of college administration and cheerful life force rescued me many a time in my tenure at IVC. There is a terrible vacancy there now. Could the college plant a tree and bench in her honor? I will look into this, if the family approves.
Blessings of peace and strenght to the family.

I first met Julie at Admissions and Records at the College of Marin Indian Valley campus in 1996 when I dropped off my grades at the end of the semester when my twins were very young - still in a stroller. It was kind of ritual for me to drop off grades at the Indian Valley Campus since I live in Novato and I always looked forward to seeing Julie. When she saw me she would come out of the office and we would talk about our children. She was always so very kind and I always looked forward to talking with her. As my children got older I started teaching more at the Kentfield Campus and I would not have the opportunity to see Julie, until one day I ran into her at Novato Family Martial Arts where her daughter, Emma, and my son, Mark, took Taekwondo classes together.
We would talk about COM, Math classes, and our children. Her daughter was ready to begin classes at COM and as it turned out her daughter Emma signed up for my Trigonometry class. I would look forward to seeing Julie and talking with her whenever my son and Emma had Taekwondo class together. Mark and I want to express our heartfelt sympathies to the Oyle family. Julie will be greatly missed but warmly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

I remember meeting Julie in an Olive classroom while we prepped for a class party. She was always on the sidelines of soccer games while Ben and my husband, Jeff coached. Her warm, happy spirit is what I remember. I am deeply sorry that she is gone. Sending love and prayers up for you all.

I worked with Julie in the 90's at COM in A & R. It's a big job but Julie was the Go To person knowing so much about all aspects of the college. She always had solid answers and resources to offer to students and never, ever turned her back, always going above and beyond to help everyone.
She made me a baby quilt when I was pregnant-I will treasure that blanket forever. It seemed like she was continually making baby quilts, explaining where each piece of material came from...a warm blanket for a new life. Our thoughts are with Ben, Julie's rock and lifelong companion, and the
kids who I know Julie was so very proud of.

To the Oyle Family -

I'm so sorry for your loss. You were the love of her life and she was so proud of her children and her husband. A true family that cared and supported each other.

Julie will always remain in my heart - a cherished friend. We could do anything together. We always laughed that our lives ran such similar paths and that Ben and Peter must have been brothers in another life. We shared many fun times and supported each other through the not so good times. She will be missed. Her talents with needles and apricots are legendary. She was amazing and I'm proud to have been her friend.
