Mitch Wiener Obituary

Mitch Wiener Was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. After a valiant 16 month battle with cancer, Mitch passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 9, 1949 in New York City and spent the first 10 years of his life living in the Bronx. His family then moved to Los Angeles where he graduated Birmingham High School, class of 1968. After living in Hawaii, Mitch returned to Los Angeles, and shortly after moved to Berkeley, CA where he met his wife of 40 years, UC Berkeley alum Isobel. Mitch worked in the trades as a journeyman, carpenter and then General Contractor. In 1974, Mitch and Isobel moved to Marin County and Mitch began building custom homes for the next 42 years. After 10 years living in Mill Valley, Mitch and Isobel moved to Ross, where they resided for the next 25 years in homes which Mitch built. In Ross, Mitch became an active member of the community contributing to many Town projects. Having designed and built many of the most prestigious homes in Marin County, Mitch's work has been celebrated for its superior quality and craftsmanship in several architectural and design magazines. Mitch was passionate about fitness and enjoyed swimming, sailing, and hiking Bald Hill with his beloved dog Ace. He also spent several years studying Kempo karate, a passion he shared with his daughter Calley. He had an incredible thirst for knowledge and was always reading and learning. He became a collector of fine art, antiques and furniture. In recent years Mitch and Isobel had a second home in Palm Springs, CA where Mitch continued working and building. Mitch will be terribly missed by his wife Isobel, his mother Natalie, his children Georgia (Brian) and Calley, granddaughters Grace and Ellie, his sister Kathy (Jay) and his nieces and nephews. Although Mitch will always be remembered for the beautiful homes he built, he was most proud of the lives he touched mentoring people in the trades. Also, he was a supporter of children's cancer causes and animal rescue. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in SF. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Meadow Club, 1001 Bolinas Rd., Fairfax, CA at 11:00 AM.

Mitch was a wonderful man with a spirit that inspired. I feel that I knew him somewhat briefly, but knowing him affected my life in ways that mattered. He was passionate, kind, intelligent...to name just a few. I admired Mitch very much. I especially respected Mitch for his love and dedication to his wife, children, and his wonderful young man Ace. I know he will be missed by many. My deep condolences to you Isobel and your beautiful family. With love, Christi N

I met Mitch in 2012 and we became instant friends. It was a special bond that I have only had with one or two friends in my entire life. I recognized his high level of integrity and his love of life and other people around him. We both had very similar backgrounds, early life experiences and a very sensitive understanding of the needs of others. Mitch added much more to my life in the short but very rewarding period of time that I was fortunate to have shared with him.

Dear Isobel, Calley, and Georgia,
I am so sorry to hear of Mitch's passing. I have many fond memories of running into him on Baldy(always with our dogs!) and having philosophical chats about life, politics, but mostly our children. He was a very proud papa! I hope you find comfort in his memory and the abundant love he had for you.
Warm regards,
Buffie Ballard
