Noble Hamilton Obituary

Noble Hamilton, Jr. Dec. 20, 1921 to Mar. 3, 2015 Noble Hamilton peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 3rd at his home in Greenbrae. He was a third generation San Franciscan, a fact of which he was very proud. He grew up on Washington and Lyon Streets attending Grant Grammar School and Lowell High School. During the 1930's, his family rented a house in Bolinas for the summer. Bolinas always remained a very special place for him. In August of 1940, Noble became the third generation of his family to study at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and played on the Men's Basketball team. Noble graduated from U.C. Berkeley in January of 1944 and was immediately commissioned by the US Navy. He served the remainder of the war in the Pacific Arena as a lieutenant on the U.S. Destroyer Brown DD546. The ship received the Naval Citation Award for its performance in the capture of Okinawa. After the end of the war, he married Peggy Tinning Evans at the Evan's house in Bolinas. Peggy and Noble raised their four children in the family home in Ross where they lived for 54 years. Every summer they spent time at the family cabin on Fallen Leaf Lake. Noble worked in sales at the Blake Moffit and Towne Paper Company at 8th and Brannan Streets from 1946 to 1982, becoming the Sales manager of both the San Francisco and Oakland offices. From 1982 to 1992, he worked as a sales consultant for the E.D. Bullard Company in Sausalito introducing and selling Bullard safety products to the United States government. He was a member of the Lagunitas Country Club in Ross and the Bohemian Club. Noble was a staunch supporter of the University of California at Berkeley's Athletic Program and served on various committees raising funds for many of the University functions. He also volunteered his time at the Marin General Hospital raising funds for the hospital and chairing several committees. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Hamilton Shurtleff of San Francisco. He is also survived by his son Noble Hamilton III, his daughters Maggie Evans, Winnie Caulkins (Bill), Buffer Fennie (Chris), and his five grandchildren, Hank and Jamie Caulkins, Will and Paige Fennie and Liz Evans. A private memorial service will be held. Donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Hospice by the Bay or a charitable institution of your choice.

Noble never met a stranger. He "lived out loud" and left only a trail of friends in his wake. It was a great pleasure to have known him.

To the family of Noble Hamilton,

I was sorry to read of your beloved Noble. I remember him so
well. I worked with Noble at Blake, Moffit & Towne in the mid-
70's. He was such a personable and classy man. He always had
a smile and good advice. He told me about one of his favorite places
in Cabo (The Finisterra) & about a little start up company called
Genentech. Well as luck would have it, I would again work with
another Hamilton, Buffer & also her husband Chris. I'll never
forget him - my deepest condolences,

Noble was a very nice man who helped a dear friend of mine, Edith. I did not know him well, but liked him. Also liked his model ship. Maggie's Neighbor, Diane.

Noble was a great friend of my father's, Henry Wilkins. They both loved going to the Big Game as well at the 49ers. I remember Noble attended loads of events at our home in Bolinas over the years. Will miss him.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I met Noble nearly 10 years ago when we sold his home in Ross. We became fast friends and enjoyed many good times together. I loved Noble for his great wit, wisdom and commitment to others. I feel honored to have had him in my life and will dearly miss him.

Uncle Noble is a kind and loving and joyful soul. I am smiling and laughing at your jokes right now! Uncle Noble is not 'was'; he is 'is' for alive in my heart ever now.
