I have known Dick since 1955 when we both entered the US Merchant Marine Academy. As a cadet, Dick was always kind and considerate,a team player who looked out for his friends. He had a wry sense of humor, and a sparkle in his eyes. He was a man of his word, highly principled and soft spoken. He was dependable and could always be counted upon if one needed help or advice.
It is so wonderful to have vivid memories of Dick, a lifetime of memories. We remained good friends over the years even though he lived in California and I am in Virginia. My wife and I visited Dick and Peggy several times over the years and memories of Dick showing us a redwood forest and us all enjoying a meal at a nearby water front restaurant are fondly tucked away in memory.
We are very sorry to have lost our dear friend and hope he is in a better place. We will not forget you Dick.

Dick and his brother Tom were very kind to me and my sister when we visited them on summer vacation at their family farm when he was a teenager and we were preteen kids.
