Richard Lauer Obituary

Richard Lee "Dick" Lauer
Passed away peacefully at his home in Novato CA, on January 25th, 2004, surrounded by his wife and children. Born June 25th, 1946, in Long Beach CA, Dick has lived in Marin County for the last 30 years.
Dick dedicated his life to helping others. His career in the San Francisco Fire Department spanned 28 years and he retired in May, 2003, as a Captain. He also was a Colonel in the Army National Guard with 32 years of service. In addition, Dick donated much of his time coaching youth sports, leading a local Boy Scout Troop, and teaching classes in community disaster response training. Dick's hobbies were many, but shared the common thread of spending time
with those he loved. Whether boating on Lake Shasta, skiing in Tahoe, or puttering on house projects, Dick was happiest interacting, storytelling, and working with his hands. Those who were blessed with knowing Dick will most certainly miss his infectious smile, sage advice, benevolent nature, knowledge of trivia, and quick wit!
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Janette Marie; son, Brad; daughter, Cori; his son-in-law, Kevin; his brother, Robert Lauer of Redding; his sister, Penny Haynes and her husband Jim of Sacramento; and his sister, Kathy McCoon of Oakhurst.
The Visitation will be held at Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin, 1801 Novato Blvd., from 2:00 to 9:00 PM on Thursday, January 29th, 2004, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 5920 Geary, San Francisco, on Friday, January 30th, 2004, at 10:00 AM. A private Interment will follow the Funeral Mass. Contributions may be made in Dick's name to the Timothy Murphy School for Boys (1 St. Vincents Drive, San Rafael, CA 94903, 415.499.7616), Hospice of Marin Foundation (21 Tamal Vista Blvd., Suite 101, Corte Madera, CA 94925), or The National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (800.872.3000).
