Sarah Chaffin Obituary

Sarah Ann Chaffin July 9, 2017 Sarah Ann Chaffin (Frank) passed away peacefully at her home in Lucas Valley after a long and valiant battle with breast cancer. She was 85 years old. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio. Her parents were Bernard and Freda Frank. She graduated from Smith College in 1954. She met her husband, Daniel S. Chaffin (Harvard 1950) in Boston. They married in 1954 and she taught school while Dan attended Medical School. They were stationed in Southern California in 1957 when Dan was drafted into the Air Force under the special physician's "draft". They immediately loved California. They relocated to Marin County in 1959 and have lived here continuously for 58 years. Sarah and Dan joined Temple Rodef Sholom at its beginning (at the old San Rafael Military Academy) and have been active members ever since. Sarah loved the rural beauty of Lucas Valley, her many good friends, relatives, and her garden. She was a genial, good-humored, wise soul, and loving companion who valued friends and family above all else. Sarah leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, Daniel, her brother Myron, children Tom (Gail), Nancy, David (Renee) and four loving grandchildren: Jordan, Jacob, Emily and Kendall. Her family would like thank Dr. Michelle Melisko and the wonderful nurses at USCF and ask in lieu of flowers donations be made to the "Metastatic Breast Cancer Fund" at UCSF. https://giving.ucsf.edu/honor-memorial

Sarah was an amazing mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, wife, and friend. She was a feminist before her time! She was the rock of our family. I am going to miss her beautiful roses, her sound and thoughtful advice, her lighting the candles at Passover, and her love of living life to its fullest.
