Sheelagh Baka Obituary

Sheelagh A. Baka March 20, 1930-December 18, 2005 Sheelagh A. Baka, 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday at her home in Benicia, surrounded by her family. Sheelagh was born and raised in Essex, England. She moved to Australia where she wed and eventually came to the United States. She moved to Terra Linda in 1965 and spent the next 28 years raising her four children and bringing happiness to every life she touched. She moved to Benicia in 2003 after her husband of 46 years passed away. Sheelagh was devoted to her community, family and faith. She was described as someone who "simply cannot be replaced" by her peers upon retirement after 20 years of service for the Dixie School District in Marin. She spent countless hours as a playground supervisor for the district and ultimately held the position of superintendent's assistant. Sheelagh instilled in her children a great love for reading, nature, gardening and education. She was a positive and loving influence at all times in their lives. She was always supportive in words and especially in actions. Whether being a first rate den mother for Girl and Cub Scouts or making costumes for school plays from scratch, she portrayed a supreme example of selflessness and kindness; it is said that she never once raised her voice. She was a member of St. Isabella's Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Altar Guild and volunteer at many church functions and activities. She was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels and St. Isabella's School. Her personal passions were the beautiful roses she grew in her garden, poetry, and playing tennis. Sheelagh is survived by her daughters Maureen Ruble of Benicia and Julia Davey of San Diego; son Gregory Baka of Saipan and five granddaughters and seven grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband Geza Baka in 2003 and her son John Baka in 1995. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, December 29th at 11:00 AM at St. Isabella's Catholic Church, Freitas Prky. in Terra Linda followed by Inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael, CA. Family prefers donations to St. Isabella's Church. PASSALACQUA FUNERAL CHAPEL 707-745-3130
