William Poeschl Obituary

William "Bill" Poeschl 1931-2013 Bill was born on May 17, 1931 in the beautiful countryside of K„rnten, Austria where he spent his boyhood. He earned his engineering degree in Klagenfurt, Austria and took a position with an International firm in Hamburg, Germany. It was a perfect fit for a young man who yearned to see the worldhis work took him to Africa (Nairobi and Cairo) where he supervised the sales of submersible pumps that supplied water to the desert. His "wanderlust" and job brought him to the United States, initially to the San Fernando Valley. His young family would join him for what was supposed to be a two year assignmentin 1960 they moved to the Bay Area and are still here! Bill's independent streak took overhe went into real estate and began a lifelong career in land sales, development and commercial real estate. One of his favorite projects was the Sea Ranch. He and his sales team 'put the Sea Ranch on the map' for Castle and Cooke Inc. of Hawaii. Bill loved people of all backgrounds and had a curiosity for life and a hunger for learninghe enjoyed golf, skiing and travel! He cherished his Catholic Faith and became a Knight of Malta in 1990. He joined the SF chapter on several pilgrimages to Lourdes, France(where the Order of Malta accompanies and cares for ill and injured persons on healing pilgrimages.) Beloved husband of 57 years to Ilse, loving father to Carin Powers of Los Altos and Tom Poeschl, Phoenix, AZ, devoted grandfather to Tierney, Los Altos and Quinn Powers, Tucson, AZ and Bill, Seattle, WA, Mike, Flagstaff, AZ and Matt Poeschl, Los Angeles, CA. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Bill lived for many years with his illness and humbly bore the suffering with dignity. Following several years of loving care by his devoted wife Ilse, he died in the compassionate care of the skilled nurses at "Our Lady of Fatima Villa" in Saratoga. Private services have been held. We would like to express our gratitude for all the prayers and thoughtful condolence cards. Our family suggests contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima Villa, 20400 Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd., Saratoga, CA 95070. The Parkinson's Institute, 675 Almanor Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94085 or to your favorite Hospice provider.

I knew William "Bill" Poeschl as a Board Mbr + International Committee chair, Y of SF. His passion for serving youth and for international exchange programs was well known by all who knew Bill, and he provided endless support to me as I worked w/ these programs at the Y.
