Daniel Dunlevy Obituary

Daniel James Dunlevy

CHARLOTTE, NC: God called another angel home. On March 24, 2017, Dan lost his battle with lymphatic cancer at Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was surrounded with love by his two sons, fiancé, and prayers from all over.

Dan was born December 4, 1959, in Akron, OH, to the late Jeremiah James & Wilma Jean Dunlevy and graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1978. He played baseball and football in high school and was captain of the football team. Dan was a member of the all-state team and earned a football scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University.

In 1981, the Dunlevy Family moved to Richmond, TX, where Dan and his father became partners in the construction and remodeling business. Work eventually brought Dan to the Charlotte area in 1989, where he continued business as Dunlevy Siding. A few years ago, Dan made a career change and attended the Charlotte Truck Driving School. After school, he became a dedicated over the road driver and trainer for Swift Transportation, out of Greer, SC, until December 2016, when he decided to come off the road to fight cancer.

In his day, Dan was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing every chance he got, especially on the coast. He also loved to watch football, buff up on history, play cards, golf, ride his Harley, and most of all, spend time with his two sons, Zachary and Michael.

Dan was a God loving, all American, down to earth, sincere and gentle soul who was loved by all that were fortunate enough to have known him. He will truly, truly be missed.

Dan is survived by his two sons, Zachary Daniel and Michael James Dunlevy, of Charlotte, NC, and their mother, Cheryl Sillick Clyne; three sisters, Pamela Dunlevy Fitch of Marion, OH, Peggy Dunlevy Michaud of Houston, TX, Nancy Faye Dunlevy of Sugarland, TX; and by his fiancé, Judy Nixon Baker of Charlotte.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Jeri Lee Mosley.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078 with Rev. Billy Towery and Rev. Phil Turner of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
