Darrell James Shoffner, Sr.
MARION: Darrell James Shoffner, Sr., (aka T-Bone) went to be with the Lord at the age of 85 on (Saturday) December 12, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Darrell was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on June 14, 1930 to the late James Otto Shoffner and Dora Alice (Cox) Shoffner. His famous quote- "Let's get this show on the road."
Darrell was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Marion and also a member of the VFW. On November 6, 1953, he married the love of his life, Diane Rose (Parcher) Shoffner in Richmond, Indiana. They were together for 43 years until Diane went to be with the Lord on November 24, 1996.
Darrell's passion was his family. He loved it when we had family gatherings that all the family came to. He also loved tinkering in his shed, fishing, working puzzles, model classic car collecting and watching Wheel of Fortune and the Price Is Right. Darrell was very proud of the garden he grew every year. He was known as the "King of Homemade Vegetable Soup", which he would make and share with those he loved.
At the age of 18, Darrell enlisted in the Army. He was a Corporal and served during the Korean War Era. He did his basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky and was in the 11th Airborne. Darrell then went to Germany where he drove an ammunition truck. He was in the 1st Division-16th Infantry in Nerberg, Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1952.
Darrell has always been known as a very hard worker, sometimes working two jobs at once. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the Marion Engineer Depot, Marion Candy, Marion Bronze, Reimer-Clingle Trucking, Napa and Brian Keenan's Tree Service. He also has his own demolition business known as "Shoffner and Son". After retirement, he still worked hard. Known as the "wood guy", he would cut and split wood sometimes all day long.
Darrell will be deeply missed by his daughters: Betty Shoffner of Marion, Connie (Randy) Waterer of LaRue, Lori (Brett) Jobe of Mt. Gilead, Patty (Rick) Armbruster of Marion; one son: Darrell (Christina) Shoffner, Jr. of Marion; grandchildren: Chris Hudson and Rachel Watkins, Jamie Rister and Tom Rister, Mike Waterer and Chelsea Day, Ashley Saulsberry, Shawn Coffey and Clara Coffey, Ciara Coffey and Josh Parish, Jessica Abrams and Matt Abrams, Naomi Bullock and Matt Bullock, J.D. Jobe and Helen Jobe, Kelli Dailey and John Dailey, Dane Jobe and Kaylin Jobe, Dezdra Jobe and Chris Loper, J.J. Oney, Nevada Horsley and Chris Horsley, Michelle Harper and Gary Harper, D.J. Shoffner III and Ashley Vanderpool, Zach Shoffner and Sutton Lewis, Dalton Shoffner, Auston Shoffner and Josh Gregg; 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; sister-in-law: Debbie Parcher and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his parents, James Otto Shoffner and Dora (Cox) Shoffner; mother-in -law: Thelma (Rice-Parcher) Potter; father-in-law: Virgil Parcher; and wife: Diane Rose (Parcher) Shoffner, he was preceded in death by three sons: Baby Shoffner, Darrell Wesley Shoffner and Richard Allen Shoffner; one grandson: Adam Don James Waterer; three brothers: Russell Shoffner, Marvin Shoffner and Ernest Shoffner; one sister: Elizabeth (Shoffner) Ginn.
Visitation for Darrell will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 1pm-3pm and 6pm-8pm at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11:00am at the Grace Baptist Church- 1560 Marion-Marysville Road of Marion with Pastors Nicholas Worden and Bill Middleton officiating the service. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Marion Cemetery with full military rights. Pallbearers are Darrell's grandsons: Chris Hudson, Mike Waterer, Shawn Coffey, J.J. Oney, Chris Horsley, D.J. Shoffner, Zack Shoffner, Dalton Shoffner, Auston Shoffner, and Josh Gregg.
