Genevieve Chapman Obituary

Genevieve M. "GeeGee" Chapman

MOUNT GILEAD: Genevieve M. "GeeGee" Chapman, age 94, of Mount Gilead, died peacefully Wednesday evening, March 8, 2017, at Morrow Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.

On August 2, 1922, Genevieve was born in Michigan, one of two children of the late Clayton and Mary (Ellinwood) Johnston. She was raised in Richwood, Ohio, and lost her mother at the young age of 9. She graduated from Richwood High School.

Genevieve married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Chapman, on December 11, 1949, at the Richwood United Methodist Church. They were by each other's side working together on the family farm every day of their 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2010.

A caring homemaker, Genevieve did everything she could to help take care of Chuck, their home and their family farm. She did everything from taking care of the chickens, to driving the bailer, and on and on.

Very faithful, Genevieve was an active member of the Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church, where she helped however she could. She and Chuck especially enjoyed caring for the shut ins of the church, taking them flowers to lift their spirits.

Remaining close with her Richwood classmates over the years, Genevieve always was in charge of their alumni banquets and class reunions. Good at making crafts too, she enjoyed making the center pieces for all of their events.

Sharing a close bond with Chuck's family, Genevieve especially enjoyed traveling with her niece and nephew, Patti Denman and Dennis Chapman.

Genevieve will be missed by her brother-in-law, Oris Chapman of Mount Gilead; two sisters-in-law: Esther Chapman and Betty Chapman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her brother: Pearl (Lillian) Johnston; nephew, David Johnston; two brothers-in-law: Carl Chapman and Robert Chapman; a sister-in-law, Louise Chapman; and her niece and caretaker, Patti Denman.

Her family will greet friends from 10 - 11 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will follow there at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeannie Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church, 3994 Co. Rd. 20, Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
