Jacqueline Mae (Severns) Wooten

MARION: Jacqueline Mae (Severns) Wooten, age 85, of Marion, passed away on Saturday morning, June 2, 2012, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Jockie was born on October 27, 1926, the daughter of James W. and Antoinette B. (Young) Severns. She was educated in the Claridon School district and graduated in the class of 1944. Jockie entered the White Cross Nursing Program (Riverside Methodist Hospital Nursing Program) and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1947. After her schooling, she kept in contact with her classmates where they would have annual reunions spanning nearly 65 years. In 1954, she was hired by Marion Power Shovel and served as the First Aid Nurse. She spent her entire career there and retired after 33 years of dedicated service.

Jockie was known for many things; her enjoyment of fishing, card playing and reading. She felt it was important to always keep her mind active, with that in mind, she loved working crossword puzzles, playing games, and would never miss an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune.

Jockie was a doer and a giver. She was known and loved by everyone she met, and she had the incredible gift of remembering names which would make all who knew her to feel special and loved. She showed her love for others through gifts. She handmade Christmas gifts every year that included calendars and Christmas stockings.

She was very proud to be a charter member of the Timothy Lutheran Church, where she worshiped and served her fellow members. She was also a member of the Claridon Homemaker's Club.

Jockie will be missed by her children: Gary (Debb) Crawford of Marion, Marcia Wooten of Marion, Maureen (Frank Morone) Magill of Marion and Mark Wooten of Waldo; grandchildren: Josh (Joy) Crawford, Joe (Fiancé Jen ) Crawford, Brian Buckner, Kelley Skaggs, Catrina Watson, Angie (Jason) Sherer, James (Jamie) Magill, Jacob Morone, Kacie and Brock Wooten; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, Maurice "Hoot" Wooten; and siblings: Barbara Hensel, Phyllis Lee, Mary Jo Thomas and infant brother, James Severns.

We always called her Jockie. I remember her well. Her sister Phyllis Lee was my aunt. At the Christmas party MPS held at the the Palace Theater, Jockie always wore a felt "poodle" skirt with a lighted Christmas tree on it. I have many pleasant memories of her and spendinmg time at her parents' house. Jockie will be sorely missed.

My father spoke of Jackie many times. He worked at Commercial Steels Castings as their Foreman for many years. He spoke of her as a very kind person with a wonderful sense of humor.
My sympathy to your family.
