Robert "Bob" Edward Grindell Sr.

KENTON: Robert "Bob" Edward Grindell Sr. age 91 of Kenton passed away at 6:55 a.m. on Sunday October 29, 2017 at his residence. He was born September 8, 1926 in Kenton the son of the late Harold "Red" and Lucille (Columber) Grindell. On September 30, 1953 in Reno, Nevada Bob married Iris Sowers and she survives.

Bob is survived by his children Cheryl (Frank) Tice of Kenton and Robert E. Grindell Jr. of Kenton; grandchildren Misty (Kenny) Wilson, William F. (Joni) Elsasser III, and Stacia Nicole Grindell; several great grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Thomas of Kenton and Colleen Brown of Mt. Vernon, OH; half brother Larry Grindell of Kenton; half sister Debbie (Rob) Ryder of Van Wert, OH; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Lauren Grindell.

He was a graduate of Kenton High School and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy his duties included Chief Quartermaster and Navigator retiring after 24 1/2 years of service primarily in Hawaii and California serving aboard the USS Pickerel (SS-177). He was active during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Viet Nam War. Following his time in the Navy Bob was a Trucking Dispatcher Manager for Leaseway Trucking in Marion, OH.

Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church, Kenton, the Bellefontaine Masonic Lodge #209, an Antioch 31st Degree Shrine member, a Kenton O.E.S. Lodge #364 member, and a member of the Kenton Moose Family Center #428. He was a past member of the Kenton Elks Lodge #157, the NRA, and the Venture Touring Society motorcycle club.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast touring all 48 continental United States along with the eastern Canadian Providences. Bob enjoyed skydiving and parachuting.

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Edward Grindell Sr. will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday November 1, 2017 at the Schindewolf Stout Crates Funeral Home with Pastor B.J. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery where full military gravesite rites will be conducted by Kenton AMVETS Post 1994 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 - 12:00 noon prior to the funeral service.

The family requests that donations in Bob's memory be made to the Hardin County Humane Society. Condolences may be left for the family by visiting stoutcrates.com.
