HERMAN GIERINGER JR. Herman Edward Gieringer Jr., 79, of Marshall, MO, died Monday, August 19, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Park Cemetery. An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com Born April 15, 1945, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Herman Edward Gieringer Sr. and Edith Josephine Samson Gieringer. He lived in Marshall all of his life, was a 1963 graduate of Mercy High School, member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Herman joined the United States Air Force in 1967, being stationed in Vietnam and Thailand, and was honorably discharged in 1972. On October 13, 1990, he married Jeanette Westhues who survives of the home. Throughout the years he farmed with his parents on the family farm. Herman's fulltime career was spent as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service where he worked for 40 years. He was always busy doing something, but one of the things he enjoyed was following sports of all kinds, especially any sport that involved Notre Dame. Herman was an avid gardener which led him and Jeanette to operate Gieringer Produce for 15 years. Of all the things he enjoyed, his greatest enjoyment and pride was found in his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Some of the words used to describe his personality were selfless, kind, caring and gentle. Herman was tall in physical stature on the outside, but his love for his family made him a giant of man on the inside. In addition to his wife, Jeanette; he is survived by three children: Patty O'Connor (John) of Kansas City, MO, Edie Miller (Glenn II) of rural Marshall and Tim Gieringer (Morgan) of Denton, TX; three stepchildren: Eric Brandt (Laura) of Lee's Summit, MO, Chris Brandt (Racheall) of Marshall and Becky Fann (Jason) of Marshall; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Ken Gieringer and Paul Gieringer, both of Marshall; two sisters, Martha Sturm of Onalaska, WI and Mary Vaughn of Plano, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Herman was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chuck Gieringer.

Our sincere condolences to all of Herman's family and friends. We remember Herman fondly, not only through our days at St. Peter's, but also our many chats as he delivered our mail for so many years. Our prayers are with all of you and may you be comforted to know that he is now in the hands of our Lord.

Herman and I worked together many years ago after he was discharged from the service. We both are Air Force veterans, so we had a lot in common and became very good friends. Tracy and Herman were classmates at Mercy High School. He had an infectious smile.
We are sorry for your loss.
