LESLIE JONES Obituary

LESLIE JONES Leslie (Les) Ray Jones, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday August 17th. He was born March 15th, 1950 in Gault, Missouri to Leslie and Cora Jones, who proceeded him in death. Les grew up in Marshall, Missouri and graduated from Marshall High School in 1969. He played football and was on the wrestling team throughout high school. He started his family in 1980 when he married Barbara and moved to Sedalia. Together they had three daughters, Karla Wells (Orr), Sarah Wells and Leslie Jones (Babineaux). In 1996 he was united in marriage to Terrie Martin of Marshall and together they adopted a son, Eric Jones. Les was a dedicated employee working for Safeway and Woods Supermarket in Marshall and Sedalia. He retired after working in the grocery store business for over 50 years. He was also an athletic person throughout his life. After high school sports he played on softball and volleyball leagues and was also in a bowling league. He was a member of the Sedalia Runners Club. He ran several marathons, half marathons and 10k's, as well as competed in the MS150 bicycle race. He loved watching all baseball and football, especially when it was his kids or grandkids playing. In addition to his parents, Les was proceeded in death by his wife, Terrie and daughter Karla. Surviving him are his two sisters, Jeanie Jones (Mike) of Kirksville, Connie Wonders of Marshall, his favorite ex wife Barbara Jones of Sedalia, two daughters, Sarah Wells of Sedalia, Leslie Babineaux (Jeremy Simmons) of Sedalia, a son Eric Jones of Stover, and seven grandchildren Jacob Kilgore of Little Rock Arkansas, Hannnah Meyer, Elijah Wells and Landyn Babineax of Sedalia, Jonathan, Violet and Jackson Jones of Stover, as well as a great granddaughter Layla Wells. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Association.

He was a hoot to work with. I had the pleasure of being employed by Safeway, in Marshall MO. & worked with him & the rest of the gang, God rest his soul & bless the rest of his family. May his laughter be forever in your heart.

Though it has been many years, memories of time spent with Les at backyard cookouts, Super Bowl parties, and just hanging out are among my favorites. My sincerest condolences go out to the entire family and all his many friends.
