Alden Ray Hooker, Jr., 54, of Martinsville, VA, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024. He was born January 14, 1970, in Martinsville, VA, to Linda Grannis and Alden Ray Hooker, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Adkins Hooker; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hooker; as well as his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Grant.
Ray was a kind soul who never met a stranger. His love and generosity made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family. 2 Corinthians 5:7-10, "For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."
In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons, Stephen Hooker (Ashley) and Brandon Hooker; sister, Sherry Griffin (Rodney); grandchildren, Ethan Hooker, Madison Hooker, and Brinley Hooker; stepfather, Gene Grannis; stepmother, Nadine Hooker; nephews, Keenan Griffin (Lydia) and Tristin Griffin; as well as his best friend, Bandit "Puppy."
The funeral will be Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Paul Hooker officiating. Visitation will be held forty-five minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA of Martinsville and Henry County in honor of Ray Hooker, Jr. An online donation can be made at https://www.spcamhc.org/donate/make-an-online-donation. Donations may also be mailed to 132 Joseph Martin Highway, Martinsville, Virginia 24112.
