Julia McGuire Compton

January 17, 1939 - September 30, 2025

Julia McGuire Compton, 86, of Martinsville, Va. passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025. She was born in Martinsville, on January 17, 1939, to Harry Thomas McGuire and Lottie Roach McGuire.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Larry Wayne Compton, her sister, Lois Ann Durrette, and brother, Thomas McGuire.

She is survived by her niece, Jane McGuire Durrette, nephew, Greg McGuire (Rhonda), as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Julia and Larry enjoyed living at Smith Mountain Lake prior to moving to King's Grant, and they loved to travel. Julia enjoyed her time at King's Grant and made many friends. She loved playing the piano, organ, and listening to country, gospel, and blue grass music. Julia was an avid animal lover and rescued numerous dogs and cats.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Roselawn Burial Park and will be officiated by Reverend Dr. J.D. Harmon.

Memorials may be made to: Cool Branch Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Cool Branch Volunteer Fire at 3060 Smith Mountain Rd, Penhook, VA 24137 in her memory.
