Kenneth Smith Obituary

Kenneth Smith

Kenneth Wayne Smith, 76, was called home to the Lord to join his family in Heaven on August 4, 2025. Born in Martinsville, VA, on January 29, 1949, to the late Robert Smith and Eula Williams, and predeceased by brothers, Melvin Smith and Nelson Smith, as well as cousin, Joan Stavig, who was always like an older sister.

Kenny, as his family called him, is survived by his sister-in-law, Terry S. Smith; niece, Tresa Andrews and Christy Rahman (Marvin); nephews, Robert Smith (Kim), Kenneth Smith (Serenity), and Jeffrey Smith; plus numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kenny was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love and an unwavering faith in God. A devout member of First Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA, for over 50 years, he shared fellowship with its members and rejoiced in their lives. Kenny worked for the church over those 50 years and was honored to be a part of its daily activities.

As the unofficial historian for Martinsville, people relished the knowledge that he held of the town he loved. Over the years, Kenny was employed primarily by American Furniture and worked for Hooker and Pulaski Furniture. He found joy in knowledge, going routinely to the local library and chatting with those around him. He knew so many people and their lives; however, he truly enjoyed spending time with his church family and his former classmates from Martinsville High School. Often, he would tell his family of how kind and generous they were to him.

Kenny's family was very important to him, and his daily conversations and calls will be missed by all. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Starling View Manor Assisted Living who cared for him over the years and at the time of his passing. Their grace and kindness will never be forgotten.

A viewing will be held at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville, VA, on August 29, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at First Baptist Church, 23 Starling Ave, Martinsville, VA, on August 30, 2025, at 2 p.m. with the burial immediately following at Boone's Chapel in 2228 Circle Creek Rd, Penhook, VA.
