Barbara Ann Millea Doherty. Born January 20, 1930 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Died May 13, 2017 in St. Louis, MO. Daughter of Thomas D. Millea and Mary Ellen Kingsbury. Attended Holy Name Grade School in Springfield, MA. Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Our Lady of Elms College in Chicopee, MA. Married James J. Doherty (of Lincoln, NH) on March 29, 1952 at St Michael’s Cathedral. Proceeded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, her daughter Kathleen Doherty Sargent, son Thomas M. Doherty, granddaughter Beth Loughman, and grandson Dominic Loughman. Survived by her children, Charlene Jayamanne, son-in-law Thomas Sargent, James (Jane) Doherty, daughter-in-law Frances Doherty, Barbara (Steve) Loughman, Ann Doherty, Helene (Jeff) Conrath, and Dan (Sandy) Doherty. Grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Tom, Kevin, Maureen, Helene, Mark, Matthias, Peter, Gregory, Dan, Eileen, Mary, Katie, Charlie, Ben, Nick, Phillip, Ellen, Meg, Paul, Mara, Joe, Caroline, Kathleen, Marguerite, Genevieve, Luke, Christopher, Danielle, Colleen, Jimmy, and eight great grandchildren. Barbara was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Barbara and Jim moved from Springfield, MA to St. Louis, MO in 1966 with a job promotion where she was an elementary school teacher, a volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes (St. Louis, MO) school and parish, taught GED classes at St. Patrick Center, an active pro-life supporter, and volunteer at the voting poles. She was listener, consoler, and advisor for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling the country and the world with her husband, family, and friends. She was an avid reader and card player. Lifelong New Englander and Red Sox fan. Donations can be made to Birthright of St. Louis. Barbara was Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church Saturday, May 20, 2017. Per her request, Barbara will be laid to rest with her parents at St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State St. Springfield, MA June 17 10:30am and a Memorial Mass will follow immediately at St. Michael's Cathedral 254 State St. Springfield, MA.
