Carlo M. Buendo, Visionary Founder of The Reminder Newspaper, Passes Away at 88
Springfield mourns the loss of a beloved community figure, Carlo M. Buendo, who peacefully departed on August 23, 2023 surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He was 88 years old. Carlo's legacy as a devoted husband, nurturing father, and the visionary force behind The Reminder Newspaper will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Carlo is predeceased by his first wife Anne Buendo, survived by his wife, Marlene Yacovone Buendo, his children: son Christopher and his wife Felicia, son Daniel and his wife Debbie, Marlene's daughter Susan and her husband Frank Manzi, daughter Lori Yacovone, daughter Lisa and her husband Anthony Gandelli, and her late son Greg Yacovone. Carlo also leaves behind a sister Patricia Buendo, and was predeceased by his brothers Joseph & Robert Buendo.
In addition to his immediate family, Carlo leaves behind a host of cherished grandchildren, step-grandchildren & great grandchildren. Carlo's life was a testament to the enduring power of family, community, and the pursuit of meaningful passions. He will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
The Buendo family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Chestnut Hill Nursing Home, Baystate Hospice, as well as Baystate Medical, and especially caregivers Krissy, Billy, Judy, Patty & Ray for their compassionate care and support during Carlo's final journey.
Calling hours for Carlo will be held from 3-6PM on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 28th beginning at 9AM at the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 10:30AM at St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carlo's name to Alzheimer's Association, 100 N. Parkway, Suite 105, Worcester, MA 01605 or St. Michael's Church. For online condolences please visit www.forastiere.com.

I was 18 years old working at an oil company on Island Pond Road when a young man about 10 years older than myself walked in the door and told me was starting a newspaper with local advertising and he wanted to know if my company would be interested. He was so full of energy I knew he was going to do well. I remember taking a copy of his paper and told him I would give it to my boss. I was very excited to see his vision come to life. To Carlo's family, I'm so sorry for your loss. My mother and Carlo were first cousins and very close. As a child Carlo and Annie's home on Commonweaith Ave was like a second home to me. Many fond memories.

I am so saddened to hear about Carlo passing. I will always remember the soft spoken, generous kind friend he was to us. We had so many great times together during the hockey season when our boys were playing. So many good laughs and fun. He will remain in my heart with love. My prayers and sympathy to all the family.
