Rakeem E. Nelson Jr.

Rakeem "Rahrah" Elijah Nelson Jr., 21, of Lawson St., died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Baystate Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Springfield, he was was a son of Rakeem Nelson Sr. and Lakeitha S. Watson. He was a graduate of the High School of Commerce, and played varsity basketball there. He was also a drummer for a church. "Rahrah" was known for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor, and his ability to rap. He is survived by his parents; three children, Arneja Nelson, Amari Nelson, and Calilove Nelson; three siblings, Isaiah Watson, Jahody Campbell, and Egypt Watson; his grandmothers, Debra Watson and Cheryl Nelson; aunts and uncles, Shontay Watson, Abu-Shante Jennings, and Justine and Justice Moore; and a host of other relatives. The calling hour is 2-3 p.m. Saturday at Harrell Funeral Home followed by the funeral at 3. Burial will be in the Islamic Center Cemetery in Connecticut.
