Virginia Giaquinto Obituary

Virginia E. Giaquinto 1925 - 2023 Springfield Virginia E. Giaquinto, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Giaquinto, passed away on March 2, 2023, at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing in Springfield, MA. Ginny was born in Worcester, MA on July 14, 1925, and was the daughter of Carl H. Rich and Rose (Bousquet) Rich. She graduated from Classical High School and attended American International College. She had a 30-year career as a Service Representative for New England Telephone and was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After her retirement, she volunteered at Greater Springfield Senior Services, serving as a liaison between clients and social workers. She also attended Springfield Technical Community College to pursue her life-long interest in art. Ginny, a naturally talented and accomplished artist, was a passionate painter using oils and acrylic mediums. Through her study of art, she made lasting friendships with four women who shared her fondness for painting. Additionally, she was an avid reader who enjoyed different genres of books until she lost her sight to macular degeneration. She was a true lover of all animals, but especially loved dogs. Early in their marriage, Ginny and Bob spent numerous summer vacations in picturesque Cape Cod but once they discovered the beauty of the Maine coast, they vacationed each summer for over 40 years at the Sparhawk Oceanfront Resort in Ogunquit, Maine. They met many couples and forged numerous lasting friendships during that time. During the winter months, Bob and Ginny were snowbirds who traveled south to Florida where they relaxed and enjoyed the warm sunny weather. She is survived by her children Carol A. (Giaquinto) Wojnarowski and her husband, Michael, of Wilbraham, MA; Virginia M. (Giaquinto) Lebel and her husband Robert of Peabody, MA; Robert M. Giaquinto and his wife, Karen of Hudson, NH; and her cherished grandchildren John Lebel and his wife, Linn, of Kensington, NH; Christine Lebel of Salem, MA; Kate Giaquinto of Hudson, NH; Kelly and her husband Matthew Kitsis, of Bow, NH; as well as her great grandchildren Madeline and John Lebel Jr. of Kensington, NH; Oliver and Amelia Kitsis of Bow, NH. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Annette Occhipinti of West Haven, CT; Austine Giaquinto of East Haven, CT; and Dottie Rich of Ludlow, MA. Virginia was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Robert, her brothers Alan and Robert Rich and sister-in-law Pamela Rich. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to both the medical providers and professional staff at Loomis Lakeside who cared for Ginny in assisted living and skilled nursing. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA with a service to start at 12 pm. A burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union Street Springfield, MA 01105 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
