MAYSVILLE — Carl Hendrickson Simms, 96, of Winchester, Virginia was born April 15, 1926, in Orangeburg, Mason County, Kentucky and passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at his residence.
Carl was a retired Lieutenant Colonel, in the United States Army. He served in World War II, in the Korean War and two tours in the Vietnam War and he served his family just as well as he served his country.
Survivors include his daughters, Bonnie Schinker (Peter Schinker) and Linda Gilless (Brad Gilless); his son, Dwight Simms; four sisters, Kay Hesterhagen, Rena Strawmeyer, Mildred Giescke and Lillian Caudill; four brothers, Donnie Simms, Art Simms, Orville Simms and Tommy Simms; grandchildren, Peter Schinker Jr., Kenneth Schinker, Caitlin Gilless, Evan Gilless; great-grandchildren, Kristin and Renee; Great Great Grandchildren, Carter, Kamble, Ellie, Sean, Ava and Lalea.
In addition to his parents, Orville Hendrickson Simms and Nellie May Pollitt, Carl was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Keith Simms; his first wife, Nita and his second wife, Lois Ann; and his sister, Vivian Simms Landreth.
Funeral services for Carl H. Simms will be held at the Olivet United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022, with Rev. Kent Moore officiating.
Burial will follow in the Olivet Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from noon until the hour of the service.
