Adelene LACATE Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Adelene (Addy) Lacate (nee Lee) on Thursday, January 9 after a prolonged battle with illness. Addy was born on July 4, 1966 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the age of thirteen, she immigrated to Canada with her family, where she attended Burnaby Central High School. Addy's varied career included stints in the food and hospitality industry at the Boathouse, in the business and investment community with Barretto Pacific Corp and Chai-Na-Ta Corp, and in the medical community with the Fraser Health Authority. Addy had lived in the South Surrey/ White Rock community since moving there as a newlywed in 1997, and she was so proud to call the area home. She was deeply involved in many of her children's activities and relished being a "hockey mom". Addy's greatest achievement in life was her ability to make others feel loved. Addy was a devoted and loving mother and a cherished wife. Addy is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Mona Lee. Addy is survived by her husband Russ, sons Jacob and Spencer and mother-in-law Marilyn. She will be greatly missed by all of the wonderful cousins and aunts and uncles of the Lee family, and by her dear girlfriends who were by her side until the end. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses and care workers at the BC Cancer Clinic at Surrey Memorial Hospital and to the wonderful and caring medical staff at Peace Arch Hospice. A Visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, BC, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm. Addy… my beautiful Addy. You are the older sister I never had and I love you so much. My biggest regret in life will be not knowing and not being there for you. You were always in my thoughts no matter how far away I lived or how long it had been since I last saw you. You are my role model and my hero. I always wanted to grow up to be like you, have a happy family like you, have a beautiful house like you, be as great as a person as you are, be as beautiful as you are, be as graceful and giving as you, and the list goes on. You gave me hope in life when I didn't have any. Now I hope I can be half the person, wife and mother you are. I remember long ago you asked me why would a young single girl want to come hang out with you and two young kids all the time… I think at the time I had said I didn't know, maybe because I enjoy your company. I knew Addy from way back when I was her hairdresser.She was one of my dearest clients.We had so many laughs while I wrapped her spiral perms.(she allways had the best hair)We lost touch after she moved to South Surrey,until I met up with her at a play group for our sons Spencer and Blake I was thrilled to see her again.Although we didnt hang out we allways had a connection.She was a wonderful person I am greatful to have known her.My thoughts are with the family. Aunty Addy, I will never forget clubbing with you,and dancing with you... it gives me the giggles even to this day :) Love radiated from you, and confidence in who you were. I always admired that. Through your passing, you've reminded me what is important - family. I just wish I had realized that sooner. I know I'll see you again. Russ, Jacob, and Spencer, I commend you for choosing to continue to live life instead of wallowing in sadness. It's what Aunty Addy would have wanted, and I know she'd be proud of your decision. I worked with Russ for many years and would see Addy at work functions, so didn't know her very well. But, every time I would meet her she was fully present, always interested in whatever conversation we were having, and always so proud to talk about her family. She had an inner light. Russ, Jacob and Spencer, I am so very sorry for your loss.

Russ, Jacob, Spencer and Marilyn, my heart breaks for you all. You have all been so brave during this very difficult time. I know she is watching over you and is so incredibly proud of you all today. You were her biggest reason to live, and why she never gave up her fight with this illness.
She had such a positive attitude throughout this whole journey, and I admire her so much for that. I feel so lucky to be able to say that I was one of her friends. I will forever miss her.
I will always remember her as being gentle, kind,caring, a wonderful mother and wife, and a great friend to have. I loved her infectious laughter, and wonderful big smile. I will miss all our car rides together laughing at silly things, dreaming about our next family vacation, talking about the foods that we love to eat, our walks with our doggies, sitting in the baseball stands together cheering our boys on, and the hockey tournaments.
Addy, I will miss you so much. Baseball season is around the corner, and I will miss not having you and Cesar sitting beside me this season. But I promise you, my dear Addy, that I will cheer extra loud, just so that you can hear me up above!

Russ. Not sure if you remember me but I'm Mark M's ex-wife. I remember when we were all young and you just met your wife. I have never forgotten how excited you were. How instantly in love and gaga you were over her. You looked like you just won first prize in life. It made everyone smile because your enthusiasm for her was so infectious. After all these years I remember that feeling like it was yesterday. I'm so sad to hear of her passing. I'm so sad to think of your pain. Adelene...sweet and dearest cousin... I will always remember you as my Olivia Newton John in Grease the movie...the beautiful swan full of life, love and grace. Addy was the first of the extended Lee family members who welcomed me into their crazy, gargantuan family. She always had a huge smile and contagious laugh that warmed my heart and made me feel welcome and at ease. She had a great sense of humour and a positive attitude. Her family was her pride and joy, She always had something great to say about her two sons, hubby and doggy whom she adored so much. The family gatherings without you Addy, will never be the same. Your cuz Adrian recounts vivid memories of you as an awkward teen in his grade 9 French class. Although you were relatively new to Canada, you were so good at French, while he had to struggle and ask you for all the answers! He couldn't believe what a smarty pants you were!
