Alvin Gunkel Obituary
Alvin P. Gunkel, Jr., 82, of Allentown, passed away on May 11, 2011 at Lehigh Commons. Born in Lehighton, he was the husband of Veronica A. (Kacsur) Gunkel. He was the son of the late Alvin P., Sr. and Caroline (Wist) Gunkel. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Alvin was employed by the former Shirlo Knits, Fair-Tex Mills and Bethlehem Steel Corp. He was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church of Allentown. Survivors: Wife; children, Antoinette M. Hawk of Allentown and her husband Lance, Kevin M. Gunkel of Bethlehem, Brian A. Gunkel of Alburtis and his wife Stephanie; brother, Eddie; sisters, Margaret Lusch, Elsie Stettler, and Martha Handwerk; granddaughters, Mandy, Tiffany and Ashley Hawk; nieces and nephews. Services: 9:45 a.m. Friday at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Streets, Allentown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pauls Catholic Church of Allentown. Calling hour will be 8:45-9:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Contributions: Lehigh County Humane Society, 640 Dixon Street, Allentown, PA 18103.
