Annabel Schnure Obituary

Annabel Kreider Schnure, 99, a resident of Kirkland Village in Bethlehem, PA, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert B. Schnure, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage until his death in 2012. Together they created wonderful memories and experiences with their families and friends. Annabel was born in Lyons Station, PA, on Ocober 25, 1918, the first daughter of the late Wilmer A. and Deborah H, Kreider of Sharon Hill, PA. Annabel was born at her grandparents' more rural home in an effort to avoid exposure to the 1918 influenza pandemic. Annabel graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Biology in 1940. While at Bucknell, she joined Kappa Delta sorority and served as president. Annabel was recognized with several awards and chosen to live in Honor House her senior year. It was at Bucknell that she met Bob, the love of her life. Many members of several generations of extended family attended Bucknell. In honor of this connection, Annabel and Bob established a scholarship fund in their name at their alma mater. Annabel taught at public and private schools, but her primary focus was her family and her community. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Upper St. Clair and the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, where she and Bob supported equality for all people. Annabel was a member of the American Association of University Women, of various bridge groups, and was a volunteer for organizations that addressed her interests in reading, gardening, antiques, cooking and teaching. Annabel was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a strong and enthusiastic supporter of the pursuits and endeavors of her children and grandchildren. All who knew Annabel will remember her wonderful sense of humor and her ability to tell a great story. She maintained those abilities even in her final years, which she lived with determination, kindness and gratitude after losing Bob. Surviving are her three children and their spouses: Wilmer K. and Gloria Schnure of Somerset, NJ; Robert B. Schnure, Jr. and Francis Baliotti of Downingtown, PA; Barbara J. Schnure and Lawrence Lawson of Lewisburg, PA; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Annabel was preceded in death by her husband and only sibling, Jane K. Miller of Chautauqua, NY. The family would like to thank Annabel's primary care physician, Dr. Maureen Persin, for her expertise and commitment, as well as the professional and exceptionally caring staff at Kirkland Village. Annabel's life will be celebrated by the family at a private service. Arrangements, Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem. Memorial contributions can be made by writing a check to the "Caring Community Fund" of Kirkland Village, One Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
