Barbara L. Smith
Barbara L. Smith, 59, of Jim Thorpe, Pa., died Friday, November 11, 2011, at Harrisburg Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Harrisburg and was the daughter of Constance Becker Prendergast and the late Vincent Prendergast. She was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School and was a member of the Class of 2000, of Immaculata University, where she received a B.S. Degree in Nursing. She was a former member of the Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Harrisburg and a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church of Lake Harmony, Pa. She was a registered nurse with St. Lukes VNA of Bethlehem. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her father, Vincent Paul Prendergast, on July 18, 2007. Survivors: Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of nine years, Joseph M. Smith; two daughters, Nicole (Matt) Greider of Harrisburg and Stephanie Hornung of Jim Thorpe; three sons, Ryan (Tonya) Hornung, Jason (Jillean) Hornung and Matthew Hornung, all of Harrisburg; two step-daughters, Tiffany Merritt of York and Stephanie Smith of Upper Black Eddy; two step-sons, Brandon Smith of Wernersville and Cody Smith of Upper Black Eddy; ten grandchildren, Aidan, Elliott, Liam, Ethan, Kane, Kai, Roselynn, Carver, Kyrsten and Alexis; one great-granddaughter, Layla; her Mother, Constance Prendergast of Harrisburg; three sisters, Elaine McGovern of Dallas, Pa., Sue Ann Yinger of Harrisburg and Angela (Michael) Murray of Middletown; two brothers, Stephen Prendergast and Brian Prendergast, both of Harrisburg. Services: A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg. The Very Rev. Edward J. Quinlan, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15, from 10-11 a.m., prior to the Mass, at the church. Arrangements are by the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Harrisburg. Dear Joe, Steph and Family,

I pray God will give you strength, comfort and peace during this very difficult time. Barb was such a strong, loving, compassionate and caring woman who helped so many. I'm thankful I got to know her over these last several years. She was a dear friend and I will miss her very much.

This is very sad news. I've known Barb for almost 50 years and we had many great times together. She is a true & caring friend. Although we lost touch over the last decade, I always hoped we'd get together again. I will miss my dear friend!
