Benjamin B. Kovalcik
Benjamin B. Ben Kovalcik, 75, of Northampton, PA, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving children. Born in Cementon, PA, he was the son of the late Matthias and Mary (Pisarcik) Kovalcik. Benjamin was employed as a Operating Engineer by the former Lucent Technologies, of Allentown, PA for 44 years before retiring. Along with Lucent, he was a career Navy man serving 27 years in the United States Navy. He achieved the rank of Chief Hull Maintenance Technician retiring in 1993. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Northampton, PA. A life member of the Catholic War Vets, Post #454, Northampton. He was a life member of the Laurel Fire Co. and a member of the American Legion Post #353, Northampton. A former member of the Slovak Club, Cementon, PA. He was a former co-chair of the Cement Belt Fairand Past President of the Cementon Playground for six years. He was an avid golfer, runner, and he enjoyed skiing and fishing. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Benjamin was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #1522. He was a member of the Loeser Assoc. DE680 and a member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Assoc. He was also a member of the Black Diamond Branch #115 Fleet Reserve Assoc. He graduated from the Hokendauqua High School in 1955. Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Colleen A., wife of Braxton Besz of Allentown; two sons, Benjamin M. and wife Jennifer Kovalcik of Whitehall, Matthew D. Kovalcik of Whitehall; four sisters, Mary Kovalcik and Johanna A. Fabik, both of Whitehall, Bernadine M. Kradiel of Hellertown, Hermina, wife of William Braerman of Aberdeen, MD; two brothers, Edward S. Kovalchik and wife Jenny and Joseph Kovalchik and wife Shirley, all of Northampton; three grandchildren, Avery, Brooklyn, and Evan. Ben was predeceased by four brothers, Charles T., Matthew P., Paul F., and Cyril M., and a sister, Caroline Fella. Services: A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday August 20, 2012 at Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 22nd St. and Washington Ave., Northampton, PA. 18067. With Calling Hours Sunday August 19, 2012, 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Monday August 20, 2012 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. both at the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, PA. 18067. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the parish Cemetery in Northampton, PA. Contributions: May be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund c/o the funeral home.The children request you to wear you favorite Golf Shirt for Sundays visitation.
