Bertram E. Bert Schrantz, 82, formerly of Callone Avenue, Bethlehem, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. He is predeceased by his wife Florence (Morris), who died August 1985. A patrolman with the Bethlehem Police Department for 28 years, he retired from the force in 1987. During his tenure in the department he received commendations from the department in 1963 and 1969. He served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre from 1941-1945. From 1948-1958 he served in the Marine Corps Reserve where he attained the rank of sergeant. He was a foreman for the former R.K. Lanos Silk Mill, Bethlehem from 1946-1951. He also worked as a bricklayer in the Blast Furnace of the Bethlehem Steel from 1952-1958. Bert was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police Star Lodge #20 and a 50 year member of Edward Ackerman American Legion Post #397, Hellertown. Survivors: Daughter, Florence M., wife of Albert E. Siegfried of Bethlehem; son, William A. Ashbridge of Bellevue, Nebraska; sister, Mrs. Lillian Ruch of Dickerson, Maryland; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by a sister Jean Bartholomew and a brother, Russell Schrantz. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, July 10 in the Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway, Fountain Hill.
