Bryn Hammarstrom Obituary

Bryn Hammarstrom Sr.
Bryn Hammarstrom Sr., 90, of Westminster Village, Allentown, died July 18, 2008. Born Brynolf Hammarstrom, he was a son of Erik Hammarstrom and Inez Dahl. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Treat Bissell, and three brothers. He was a graduate of Wesleyan University in Conneticut, earning a B.S. degree in chemistry. He helped develop vinyl floor covering in Philadelphia and then in Allentown. He helped found Lehigh Valley Friends Meeting. He cofounded local chapters of both the American Society for Testing and Materials and American Society for Quality Control, was a co-founder of LEPOCO, and volunteered for the American Friends Service Committee, Bethlehem Council of Churches and the local Prison Society. Survivors: Son, Bryn Hammarstrom and Lynne Graham of Middlebury Center; daughter, Wendy Hammarstrom of Murrieta, Calif.; three granddaughters, Emma Priya, Laura Sunita, Marina. Services: Memorial, 3 p.m. Sept. 20, Lehigh Valley Friends Meetinghouse.

I was very sorry to learn of Bryn's death. He and his wife Helen were good neighbors to me many years ago when we all lived on Linden Street in Bethlehem.
I remember his long-standing devotion to recycling, which included flattening cans for ease of storage.
He was a fine man.
