Calvin H. Freed
Calvin H. Freed, 74, a long-time resident of Tylersport, formerly of Sellersville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Joan D. (Wimmer) Freed. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last November. Born in Tylersport on March 1, 1935, he was the son of the late Calvin C. and Anna (Shedal) Freed. He attended Souderton High School. Cal, or Sonny, as he was known to some people, was employed by the U.S. Gauge Division, Ametek Inc., Sellersville, for more than 20 years, retiring in 1998. Cal was a long-time member of Ridge Valley United Church of Christ, Sellersville. A life-time member of the Tylersport Fire Company, he also had been a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Union and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Lodge 1092. He enjoyed socializing with friends and traveling to and spending time in Lancaster and the Poconos. Cal loved country and polka music. He enjoyed working around his home, caring for his lawn, shrubbery and flowers. Cal had a wonderful sense of humor. Most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved family and grandchildren, Christopher and Crystal. Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kevin Freed of Telford; a daughter, Sandy Davis and her husband, Richard, of Center Valley; two grandchildren, Christopher Cupchak and Crystal Davis, both of Center Valley; brother, Richard Freed and his wife, Patricia, of Milford Square; niece, two nephews; several cousins; many friends. Services: 11 a.m. Monday morning, May 18 in Ridge Valley United Church of Christ, 905 Allentown Road, Sellersville, 18960. Family and friends may call Sunday evening, May 17 in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 N. Main Street, Sellersville, from 6-8 p.m. and again on Monday morning in the church, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment, Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie. Contributions: For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Ridge Valley United Church of Christ, at the above address, or to the Tylersport Volunteer Fire Company, 125 Ridge Road, Tylersport, PA 18971.
