Charles Quigg Obituary

Charles "Chic" W. Quigg, 91, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 2, 2023, while in the care of Lehigh Valley Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Shirleyann (Finn) Quigg, with whom he shared over 69 years of loving marriage. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Florence (McCausland) Quigg; Mae (Blank) Quigg. Charles was a graduate of Liberty High School, class of 1949, and graduated with a degree in Business and Economics from Lafayette College, class of 1954. He played basketball on scholarship for the Lafayette Leopards. He honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Ranger and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. Charles was the supervisor of project expediting and purchasing for the Bethlehem Steel for most of his life before retiring. He was a faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a part of the kitchen crew. Charles had a passion for sports. Growing up, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He was a P.I.A.A. referee. He also coached basketball at Northampton Jr and Sr High School and at the Boys Club of Pembroke as well as in many other leagues throughout the Lehigh Valley. Charles was a mentor to many throughout his coaching years and helped give meaning and hope to the youth of our community. He devoted his life to family, especially his grandchildren, whom he enjoyed coaching and mentoring in their sports. Above all, Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all he touched.

You have made your last march down the lonely dusty trail. You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran. A Navy Vietnam Veteran.

Shirleyann -
Thinking about Chic with great sadness but yet so many great memories. From the day I met him something seemed to click between us and we became great friends. Some of those great memories that will always be special to me include the following: his coaching and mentoring me personally, Freedom basketball, Lafayette basketball games, basketball at the Boys Club, basketball at steel field, golf at the steel club, helping me with little league teams, helping me re roof my house, gardening at Spring Garden, West Bethlehem baseball, conversations about farming and farm life, stories about Lackawanna days, beers at Machs Gute, expediting trips to solve BSC problems, visiting us in Myrtle Beach, phone calls just to catch up on each other´s lives - and the list could go on and on.
Most of all I will remember how proud and he was you and your children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
Chic was a very special friend and role model that I am going to miss very much!
